Tough Romance [Rated PG]

Summary: Drew and May have a little conversation about their lovestruck Pokémon. Oneshot Contestshipping.
Genre: Romance
Shipping: Contestshipping, and Masquerain/Beautifly if that shipping exists.
Author's Note: I was just battling some trainers with my Milotic when I remembered something I read on the internet, about the connection between Milotic and Gyarados. I compared it with Beautifly and Masquerain, and voilŕ!

It was night. The moon and the stars sparkled. Everyone was asleep. Except for one person.

May was lying on her bed. She rented a room from the Pokémon Center, because she was planning on entering tomorrow’s contest. But she was too nervous to sleep.
She sat up on her bed and looked out of the window. There was a beautiful lake which reflected the moonlight, giving it a mysterious elegance. Getting up, she decided to go the lake.

May stopped at the edge of the lake and sat down. It looked even prettier here than what she saw from her room. A light breeze played with her hair. She sighed blissfully and decided to share this peace with her Beautifly.
“Come out, Beautifly!” She threw a red and white Pokéball into the air. A beautiful, black butterfly with red, blue, and yellow spots on its wings emerged from the Pokéball. It flew circles above the lake. May smiled at her happy Beautifly.
She watched the Pokémon, when she suddenly spotted a Masquerain dancing with her Beautifly.
“Can’t sleep?” a familiar voice said. May looked up and caught herself staring in his sparkling, green orbs. “Drew?” May asked, barely above a whisper.
“Yep,” he said and watched the two dancing bugs. May followed his gaze.
They watched their Pokémon for a while in silence. May was beginning to feel uneasy and attempted to start a conversation. “They seem to be having a lot of fun together,” she said.
“Masquerain always acts this way when he’s around Beautifly,” he said, not keeping his eyes off the two bugs.
“What brings you here, anyway?” May got curious.
Drew smirked. “I could ask you the same.” He flicked his hair when he received a pout from May. “Just like you, I couldn’t sleep, so I went out for a walk with Masquerain.”
“Hmm, okay,” she said as they both continued watching the playing Pokémon.
“So you’re suggesting that Masquerain has a little crush on Beautifly?” She couldn’t help but asking. To her, it seemed cute when two Pokémon are in love, but still, this is her rival’s Pokémon she’s talking about.
Drew shrugged. “I guess so...”
May pondered. “This is pretty funny,” she thought aloud. “Beautifly is seen as one of the most beautiful Pokémon, while Masquerain resembles the total opposite! I mean, with the intimidating wings and stuff...”
“Appearance doesn’t matter,” he said sternly.
“But...” May began.
“Someone can be tough and harsh on the outside, but from the inside it’s really a nice person,” he interrupted. “Especially when he’s in love...”
He just stared. She stared back as it dawned on her what he just said. Her eyes grew wide. “Drew...”
He turned away and left, tossing a rose over his shoulder. When Masquerain noticed it’s trainer left, it circled around Beautifly, as if to say ‘goodbye’, and also left.
May stared as Drew walked away. “Drew...” she whispered again. When he was completely out of sight, she looked back at the lake again. Her Beautifly was now dancing all alone.
“You weren’t talking about Masquerain, were you?” she asked to the thin air and rose to her feet. “Come on Beautifly, time to leave,” she said and also left, Beautifly close behind it’s trainer. May needed to rest for the contest...

That was SOOOOO cute. ^^ I like short little stories that make ya think - very engaging. I also love the Beautifly and Masquerain pair - they are perfect. ;; I also liked how Drew basically confessed without going OOC or it being super dramatic. You handled that really well, so, props. o.o
Anyway, I hope to see some more cute, little oeshots from you, since this was so nice. ^^
