Episode 0 – Prologue
Rated G

She stepped back and took a good look at him. Both of their faces were red at the news that had been shared. It was a fight, like any other the two shared, except this time, he slipped a bit of information out under the pressure the brunet put him through. All this time she had not known of these feelings he had to himself, never to share with her, thinking he was out of his league, and out of time. She stood there in the back room of the Wardy Contest Cup Hall, eyeing her greatest rival. She never thought more of him. She never thought he thought more of her. Now the curtain rises to reveal a secret.
“I do care about you, May,” he said softly, trying to get the message across. It was time to let the Skitty out of the bag, and tell her exactly what was going on when she turned away. After all, if not now, there wouldn’t be another chance.

“How long…?” she asked, but it couldn’t be answered.

“Would coordinator number 36, May come to the stands for your final match?” the announcer asked over the loud speaker. May shot a glance at the voice box and then turned to look at Drew, whose eyes were pleading for her to leave so that he could look over his life and how big a hole it had been falling in ever since he met her. She left to face the challenger.

“Begin!” the announcer said when May got out onto the bright stage.

The boy standing across from her threw a pokeball in her direction.

“Let’s go, Seaking!” he yelled.

A giant gold fish Pokemon squirmed on the floor, but managed to keep its balance. The boy, she could see, was a fisher of some kind. He wore a fishing vest over an orange t-shirt. Hooks and liners were hanging off the vest, obviously his best. He has brown hair that was sort of a mess hanging down in front of the left side of his face. His eyes were coal black, but filled with life and determination.

“Come on out, Bulbasaur!” May yelled.

She knew she had the perfect advantage, but that’s all she remembered of the match. The trainer against her tried his Pokemon’s normal attacks, trying to avoid dumb water moves, but with a few Vine Whips and Razor Leaves, Seaking was down for the count.

“And our winner is, May!” the announcer said happily.

May perked up to the announcement of her name and stood there confused. She won? She hadn’t even been thinking about it.

May smiled at the crowd and waved to them, and thought, “They know more about the match than I do.”

Something had been on her mind during the match. ‘I do care about you…’ How long could that have possibly been going on? She couldn’t believe she had been so oblivious about it too. Now she fully understood his roses. He was as confused then as he still is now. Poor thing…

...

Drew’s battle was up next. He just wanted to get it over with already. He was sick and tired of battling. He must have gone through four rounds in order to get to the semi finals. The coordinator across from him let out a Pokeball.

“Go, Teddiursa!” the girl said.

A cute, bear Pokemon came out of the red and white ball. She looked like a preppy high school student still in her cheerleading outfit. The shirt was short and showed off her stomach and was white with green outlining. She had on a short skirt and long socks that reached above her knees. Her feet were tucked away nicely in brown shoes. Her hair was blonde and pulled back into two little balls on each side of her head, tied right with blue ribbons each.

“Let’s go, Roselia!” Drew shouted.

I rose girl Pokemon came out of the ball. It had green thorns coming from its head. Drew knew this girl’s strategy. She would always use Attract on the opponent and then pummel them with Double-Edge. Her luck of getting all male opponents had ended here. Not knowing of Roselia’s gender, the girl started off with Attract. Roselia was unaffected. The girl was utterly shocked.

“Huh? Why isn’t my attack working?” she asked in horror at her stradegy’s demise.

“Uh, Roselia’s a girl” Drew informed her, and then gave his orders to the plant, “Roselia, Petal Dance and Stun Spore!”

Roselia did as it was asked, and shot out pink petals and an orange dust.

“Well, my adorable Teddiursa can do other stuff too!” the girl said defensivly, her face red with embarrassment, “Use a Double-Edge!”

Teddiursa went for the attack, but Roselia was too much for it. With a few good attacks and Roselia’s dodging, Drew won that round with ease. The girl and her Teddiursa cried, which struck a cord inside Drew. A short clip of May crying from Slateport ran through his mind. The thing that hurt the most was the fact that he had been responsible for that.

“Congratulations…” he heard the announcer’s voice say, but he didn’t listen, nor did he acknowledge the crowd.

“Now it’s time to select the partners for the final round!” the announcer said over the loudspeaker later on.

The judges handed her an envelope with their decisions and she read them aloud, “Our teams for the next round are May and Drew on the red side and Higimarshi and Scott for the blue side!”

That evening, Drew sat outside on the hill behind the Pokemon Center facing the small lake. The sky looked like it was falling from all the shooting stars.

He mumbled to himself “Looks about time,” to the sky.

He turned around and saw that May was watching him.

“And how long have you been there?” he asked.

She didn’t know how to begin so she just answered, “Not long.”

“So…” he trailed. He knew there was something on her mind, something she needed to say.

“I…didn’t know that about you,” May said putting her hand behind her head and laughing nervously.

“Yeah…well,” he tried to start.

He didn’t really want to explain it, he didn’t even understand it fully.

“But, what about that stuff you said?” May said pretending to get mad.

He was glad she was doing most of the talking and questioning. At least then he wouldn’t have to talk to much about it himself.

“I didn’t mean any of that stuff I said. I just said it so that you wouldn’t catch on. Anyway, you get so cute when you’re mad,” Drew said to her with his usual grin.

May flashed red at his last statement and ended the conversation with a “he-he.”
“Well, if we’re going to be partners tomorrow, don’t you think we should practice?” she asked with her hands on her hips.

“Yeah,” he said, relieved, “What Pokemon were you planning on using?”
She smiled a cute smile and said, “How about Beautifly and Masquerain? They seem to like each other.” She said pionting up to the two bug Pokemon who were flying circles around each other.

“I think we’ll be up against the coordinator with a Natu and the guy with the Growlithe,” Drew said as Masquerain landed in his arms.

May looked up at him worried, “Then we have a disadvantage if we use Beautifly and Masquerain.”

“Not necessarily,” he said with a smirk, “Natu is not only a Flying type, but a Psychic type as well, being weak to Beautifly’s Bug type. There’s also Growlithe whose Fire is weak to Masquerain’s Water. We’ll be fine.” May seemed relieved.

“Then we’ll work on defense techniques,” she said putting out her arm so that Beautifly could land.

They spent a lot of time that night practicing using Flareitten (Fire type, an orange cat that stands on two legs, has wide yellow eyes, and fly like wings. Evolves from Scorchkit) as a substitute Growlithe. They decided that they would work on getting Natu out first, to corner Growlithe. The plan was set and they were ready for tomorrow.

“Will our finalists please make their way to the stage?” the announcer asked.

In the back room, May and Drew were getting ready with their two Pokemon. They heard the signal to come to the stage. It was finally time to show the Wardy region what they were made of. As they walked down the long corridor to the stage, Drew noticed May’s hands were shaking.

“Are you always nervous before a contest match?” he asked, an old taunting tone in his voice that May couldn’t miss.

“Yeah. I know that losing isn’t the worst thing, but I still get nervous. I guess I’m just afraid that…” she stopped when Drew held her hand in his.

“We’ll win, don’t worry about it,” he said and let go. She didn’t shake anymore.

When they got to the stage, two coordinators were already there. There was a man with short, purple hair. He must’ve been a coordinator for a while, his hair was turning gray. His eyes were filled with experience; light brown and droopy. He wore a long sweater that was buttoned up, covering a striped shirt underneath. His pants were brown and sagging. The other kid standing next to him had wide hazel eyes. He was short and skinny and had brown hair that was combed to the front of his face. He wore a white shirt covered by a blue vest and wore shorts with big pockets. He looked more like a trainer than a coordinator.

“Let the battle begin with five minutes on the clock!” the announcer said and the coordinators presented their Pokemon.

“Come out, Natu,” the old man said and weakly through his Pokeball to the center.

A tiny, green bird popped out.

“Kick some butt, Growlithe!” the spunky kid next to him called.

He through his Pokeball forcefully and it spitted out an orange, black striped dog Pokemon who looked as spunky as its trainer.

“Come on out, Masquerain!” Drew threw his Pokeball to the center.

The ball let out a bright blue bug to the stage. It had small, beady eyes, but what attracted attention to it was the ‘fake’ eyes that stuck sideways from its head. It’s tiny wings keeping it afloat in midair.

“Let’s go, Beautifly!” May called and let out a beautiful butterfly Pokemon.

It had a small body and big, blue eyes. It twirled in the air playfully, drizzling sparkles to the ground.

“Alright, a piece of cake! Growlithe, use Ember on that Beautifly!” the kid said as soon as the clock started down.

His dog Pokemon sprung to action by letting out hot embers from its mouth in the direction of Beautifly.
May gasped at Beautifly’s unfortunate position, but Drew stepped in and called out, “Masquerain, protect by using Bubble!” Masquerain jumped in the way of the Ember attack and shot out big bubbles, deflecting every last ember.
“Natu, use your Psychic attack,” the old man said softly and Natu prepared to strike Masquerain.

“Quickly, Beautifly, use Silver Wind!” May called.

Beautifly positioned itself high up into the air and flapped its wings very hard. Silver slashes began pouring down on Natu. It was thrown back. Masquerain continued to tangle with Growlithe, not allowing it to reach Beautifly.

“Natu, help Growlithe out with your Psychic,” the old man said and Natu obeyed.

Natu jumped on Growlithe’s head. Growlithe stopped its attack of Ember, confused about Natu’s actions. Masquerain’s Bubble got closer and Natu spread its short wings and was outlined with a blue aura. The bubbles stopped in midair and began to climb up to hit Masquerain. They hit their target, but May was quick with a counter.

“Beautifly! Use Whirlwind to send them back!” May shouted to her Pokemon.

Beautifly flapped its wings forcefully and stopped the Psychic, sending the Bubble right where it was intended to go. Growlithe and Natu were hit with the two attacks, both losing a lot of points.
Without giving them a chance, Drew and May shouted at the same time, “Silver Wind!” Masquerain and Beautifly moved in perfect sequence and delivered a double Silver Wind attack. Natu and Growlithe were beat up further. Because of its weakness to Bug type, Natu fainted, leaving Growlithe alone to deal with the powerful bugs.

“Thanks, Gramps, you were a big help!” the kid said sarcastically, “Alright, Growlithe, give ‘em a Flamethrower!”

Growlithe shot out a long flame, but the bugs had something else on their minds.

“Use Gust!” May shouted.

“Use Bubble!” Drew called.

The bugs did as they were told. Masquerain let out its Bubble and Beautifly’s Gust pushed them faster to make a hard hit, not to mention a super effective one. Growlithe lost a lot of points. The buzzer rang and time was up.

“Looking at the scores, it seems that Drew and May are our Wardy Double Champions! Congratulations!” the announcer said. May’s friends – Ash, Misty and Brock – and her brother, Max, cheered her on from the stands. The judges congratulated them and they received the Wardy Split Ribbon. Everything from there is a white blur…

“We’re really proud of you, May. Great job!” Max said to her as she admired her half of the ribbon.

“Yep, now it’s on to a new region!” Ash said gleefully.

“Yeah, I sure hope there are contests there so I can kick some new butt!” May said.

Everyone laughed and she joined in.

“What exactly is the new region we’re going to, Ash?” Misty asked.

“Uhhhhh,” he dragged and turned to look at Brock.

Brock sighed and said, “I think the best place to go is the Orre region. They’ve got a cool Mt. Battle challenge of one hundred trainers I think you’d be interested in, Ash.”

“So that’s where we’re going. Off to Orre!” Ash said excitedly.

“Wait, what about contests. Are there any there, Brock?” May asked a little disappointed.

“Uh, no I don’t think so May. I guess you’ll just have to retire for a little while. Don’t worry, Orre only has a Pre Gym and the Mt Battle challenge, so we’ll only be there for a little while,” Brock answered in a sorry tone.

May was upset, but she new better not to argue with Ash. She knew she’d just lose.

May hung around in the Pokemon Center lobby, looking out the dark window depressed. She was really ready to go for more contest challenges. She saw Drew outside sitting on a rock near the lake’s edge. She had a sudden urge to talk to him. There was nothing else better to do anyway, she used as an excuse for herself. She walked out through the glass doors to the outside. It was cool and damp, mostly because of the nearby lake.

“Hey,” May started.

Drew turned his head to look at her. A small breeze passed by, rusting his green hair.

“What’s up?” he began.

He looked away from her and out at the lake. The stars sparkled in it as if it were a second sky. May sat close to him and looked in the same direction.

“Nothing really. My group and I will be leaving again tomorrow. We never stay in a spot for too long,” she said with a short smile.

“Really? Where are you heading?” Drew asked turning to her again.

“We’re going to the Orre region. Brock said there was a good battle challenge up there and great cities,” May said unenthusiastically.

Drew raised an eyebrow, “You don’t seem so excited about it.”

“There aren’t any contests there. Just plain old battling, barely even that,” she said looking down at the rock in front of her foot. She kicked it and it fell into the water with a dull sploosh. “Where are you going?”

“I was deciding on going to Contesta,” he said, “It’s the place all coordinators go at least once. They say you have to be really great in order to just get past the first couple of contests, but I think I can manage.”

“Wow, what’s it like there?” May asked anxiously.

“Well, I’ve never actually been there, but I know one thing. It’s a region that has only contests. No badges, no league.”

“Wow, sounds like a dream. Unfortunately, Mom and Dad just called. They said they’d like to have Max home before he starts off on his Pokemon journey. I should go with him. Besides, if I go to Contesta, everyone will be in Orre. They’ve already decided,” May said sadly.

Then an idea struck Drew, “Why don’t you come to Contesta with me?”

May’s face turned red and she turned away, “...That’s actually a good idea. I’ll call my parents tomorrow, I hope they’ll allow it. Max can handle himself, he has his Quadrapay with him.” (Quadrapay is a fighting type Pokemon with a round head, a large foot and a slinky like body. Max got it during the Wardy region.)

The next day, May called her parents in Petalburg City. Her mother answered the phone. The woman had a pretty face with light brown hair that zigzagged behind her head. She was wearing a pink shirt and her hands were fastened together in her lap when she answered.

“Oh, hello May! Where are you calling from sweetie?” her mother asked with a warm smile.

“Caroline, who is it?” asked May’s father Norman, gym leader of Petalburg from far away in the house.

“It’s May, dear,” she answered.

“I’m calling from the Seaport of the World in Wardy, mom,” May said.

“Oh, how wonderful!”

“Yeah, I was calling to ask you something,” May said, dropping off in suspense.

“Oh, what is it, honey?”

“I wanted to go to Contesta, but the boat leaves today, so I won’t be able to go home with Max,” May said, pleading.

In her mind, she could hear her mother saying no, and it’s better if she catch the next one, crushing all of her hopes.

Instead, though, she said with a warm smile, “Of course, dear, you can go. Max told us he has a Pokemon and I’m sure that your friends won’t have a problem dropping him off if they want to.”

“Oh, thanks, mom! You’re the best!” May said happily hugging the phone screen.

She then let go to see her mother.

“No problem, dear. Now you win every ribbon!” Caroline said and then looked down at her watch, “Oh, sorry honey, I have to run. Talk to you when you get to Contesta. Goodbye.” May jumped off the seat and ran outside to meet Drew.

“She said I could go! She said I could go!” she said giving him a big hug.

He was startled by this, but enjoying it all the same. May let go, realizing what she was doing. “Hehe,” she laughed shakily with red spread across her face.
“Oh, no trouble at all,” Drew said with a grin.

“I have to go tell my friends,” May said and dashed into the Pokemon Center to meet them.

She saw them huddled together.

“Hi, May! You ready?” Ash asked her pulling on a glove.

She smiled and said, “Sorry, guys, but I won’t be joining you. I’m going to Contesta instead.”

“What? But, May! You were gonna come home with me!” Max whined, “Besides, mom doesn’t even know about it.”

“That’s where you’re wrong. I called mom just a little while ago and she said it was ok,” May told them.

“Well, if May’s going to Contesta and Max is going to stay in Hoenn, then it’ll just be the three of us again, won’t it?” Misty said, looking towards Ash and Brock.

“Yep. We know you’ll do great there, May,” Brock said looking up to her from the bench.

“Thanks, good luck with Mt. Battle, Ash,” May said and scooted out of the center.

“Hey, Max, if you want, we’ll come with you to Petalburg,” Misty said trying to comfort the child.

“Yeah, we could kill some time. I’m sure May’s journeys through Contesta will take longer than ours in Orre,” Brock told them.

“Alright, then it’s off the Petalburg for us,” Ash said and they walked out of the Pokemon Center.

To Auburn Town! Boat Ride panic!
Rated – PG-13

SS Grace set its coarse to Auburn Town in Contesta. The sea air breezed through the white beauty of a vessel. It honked its loud horn in a last goodbye to Wardy. May and Drew stood on the ship’s right upper deck, looking towards the wide open ocean and the journey ahead.
………………………………..

It was getting late. The boat ride was expected to last a nights and a day. May and Drew entered the ships dining room. The room was very large. Tables and their chairs were spread out across the red rugged floor. The walls also a blood red color. In the back was a stage with a microphone. Someone was up their doing karaoke. Everyone could tell he had one too many drinks. His singing was horrible, but fortunately low enough to ignore. May and Drew sat down in a booth to the side, making it easier not to hear him.
“My god, could he get any worse?” Drew asked.
May laughed and answered “No, I don’t think so.”

After they had ordered their meals, someone went up to the microphone and removed the drunken singer. People were thanking him as he left the room. Drew and May laughed at this scene. They had never seen anything like it. The man shouted to be released but he soon passed out and the other man hauled him out.

“May, go up there and sing,” Drew taunted.

May looked at him in a ‘you must be joking’ look and he laughed.

“Ah, you’ll do it some day,” he said and looked to the stage which now had a young lady singing.

They ordered, ate, and were out in a flash.
They explored the hull. There were so many things to see, like the game room full of casino style games.

“Who wants to lose their money to-night?” shouted a man behind them with his friends.

May and Drew looked around and soon became bored. All the tables were full and most of the free games were broken.

“Hey, everyone! Go to the dining room! Party on the captain! Party on the captain!” someone yelled from the doorway to the game room.

Everyone piled out. May and Drew followed them to the dining room once more. Inside, people were lining up for something at a counter on the far left. People were pushing and shoving others around.

“What are they doing?” May asked Drew.

He shrugged and said, “Looks like it’s a drinking party. We should get out of here…”

He guided her out through the glass doors and onto the deck. It was cool and breezy outside. They made their way to the staircase which led down to the cabins. As they made their way down, the glass doors busted open and guys on wobbly legs struggled out. One ran down the side towards them, but they didn’t see him coming. Drew felt a strong force thrash at him from behind and sent him forward across the downstairs hallway. He looked up from where he had landed to see what had pushed him. It had been a young man. He wore jeans and green shirt under a leather jacket. He was very tall and had sprawled himself over May. He clenched her wrists and pinned them down to the ground. His hair was messy and his eyes wild with sexual excitement. He nuzzled his face into her chest and neck. May tried to get up, but he was completely on top of her, dominating what ever was going happen. Drew felt himself get up and tackle the drunk into the wall with so much force the wall shook. May struggled to breathe but took no effort to move to the far wall ahead to get out of the way.

The man got up and let out a yell, “What are you doing? I saw her first!”

He didn’t wait for any answers. The man threw Drew a punch, but Drew caught it. He then forced it back to him. The man, furious, leaped to him with two hands trying to strangle him. Drew was quick, though, and grabbed his hands, holding him back. May watched from the far wall in amazement. Drew was actually holding back a man almost twice his size. Drew turned the fight into a game of mercy and began squeezing back the man’s hands back until he fell to the floor in agony. His fingers were bent back too far to be normal. May got up and Drew went to her. They heard others coming from the upper deck. They swung around and into an empty cabin and locked the door. Drew fell against the door exhausted. May sat next to him near the wall. The pounding of running maniacs’ feet outside was getting closer. They stopped in front of the door. They pounded against it. Drew let out an exhausted sigh.

“We know you’re in there! Come out and let us have some fun!” one drunk outside said.

Drew thought quickly and responded, “No way, guys, this one’s all mine!”

“Dammit! Well, how’s it going on?” another asked.

Drew rolled his eyes, “Awsome! I think this *****’s knocked out.”

They laughed, told him to have fun and went away. They rested for a while, and almost went to sleep when the men came back. The banged on the door, startling them both.

“You had your fun! Now let us have a go!” one shouted to Drew.

“We gotta get outta here,” Drew told May silently, quickly.

She nodded and they got up and looked around. No where to go. Drew opened the closet and found an air vent on the ceiling. May saw it and called out Combusken. The fire chicken used Double Kick to knock it down. She returned it and Drew helped her get up. Once she was into the vent, she called out Bulbasaur who lifted Drew in. They heard the door crash on the floor and crazy people started piling in.

“Where’d they go?” one asked himself.

May returned Bulbasaur quietly and they began their trek forward. It got dark.

“I can’t see anything,” May said and stopped. Drew let out Flareitten.

“Flareitten, light up your tail and lead the way,” Drew told the fire cat.

It meowed in obedience and lit up its tail. It began as the new leader forward.
...

“Hey, Drew? Why don’t we use our Pokemon to fight of those guys?” May asked.

“We don’t want to kill them, they don’t know what their doing. Come morning, they’ll forget this ever happened,” Drew explained.

They continued their way through the vent for a long time. Then the floor beneath them began to shake, suddenly, and they fell through. May landed on top of Drew and Flareitten landed on its feet.

“Ow,” Drew groaned.

May got up on her knees and froze in horror. Drew turned around to have the same gun pointed in his face.

“Try anything funny and we’ll send you both to Davey Jones Locker!” the sailor said in an English accent.

“Oh…uh, ok,” Drew said, still eyeing the gun.

“We’re innocent! We were trying to get away from them,” May told the sailors.

They had landed in the steering room. Other people were huddled up against a wall in fear. The captain, in his white suit and hat came up to them and knelt down to take a look at May.

“Hello, there May! Long time no see!” Mr. Briney said with a warm smile, “Haven’t seen you since I ferried you and your friends to Limestone City Gym!” (Mr.Briney had a ferry service from Limestone City Port to the Gym, which is located on a small island off the coast. He’s been reassigned. Limestone City is a city in Wardy where trainers get the last badge of Wardy.)

“Yeah, I know!” May said happily. Wingy landed on her shoulder in a happy welcome.

“What exactly is going on here?” Drew asked.

Mr. Briney sighed and said, “Well, according to these fellers,” he pointed to some kids huddled in the corner, “some teenager got a hold on the liquor and spread it around. Everyone got drunk and crazy and now, well here you have it.”

He went back to steering. Not too much later, they fell asleep. The crew took shifts. Morning came quickly.

“Sir, it’s six o’clock in the morning. Do think they’re all asleep by now?” asked one of the sailors to the captain who was steering the ship.

Everyone else had gone to sleep. Beforehand, they had blocked up the door.

“Yes, I suppose so,” Mr.Briney said, grimly.

May awoke to find she had fallen asleep on Drew’s shoulder. When she stirred, he awoke suddenly and became tired in the face.

“Uh, good morning,” he said lazily.

“Good morning!” she said in a cheerful mood.

“Well you’re a morning person. Unfortunately, I’m not,” Drew said as he watched her get up and walk over to Mr. Briney.

“What’s going on?” May asked the captain.

“Oh, good morning to ya lasse! Well, we have a bit of a mess. We need to tie up those criminals from last night so that they don’t escape when we reach port. The problem is, is that I can’t go because I’ve got to steer the ship and my crew is exhausted from last night. Then, I could never have them go out, they’ve had enough, and I don’t have it in me to make them go do a favor like that,” Mr. Briney said eyeing the sober passengers.

“Well, someone’s got to go,” May said.

“May, if anyone’s not gonna go, it’s you. Aren’t you afraid if something like, you know, happens again?” Drew asked.

“That’s why I want to go!” May shouted, “I want to get back at them.”

“Well, if you really want to go, here’s some rope. Good luck to ya!” Mr. Briney said and scooted Drew and May out of the safe steering room happily.

Drew sighed a tired sigh, “Why? Why so early in the morning?”

“Oh, c’mon! We could get breakfast while we’re out here,” May said and dragged him along.

They reached the dining room. It was empty and dark, except for a few places where the early morning sun passed through the glass and hit the red carpet. They walked through and heard a rustling in the kitchen. They entered. The kitchen was a white room with walls lined with stoves, dish washers, and anything else you’d find in a kitchen. They looked around. Whatever had been there was gone now. Drew was curious and opened the freezer. There sat three men who had obviously been the chefs.

“May, I think I lost my appetite,” he said with disgust.

May took a look at them. The two of them dragged the men out. They were still alive, barely. The chefs told them that the ‘wild partiers’ had thrown them in there for kicks. It wasn’t too much later when the chefs went off to find the captain and left May and Drew. With them gone, May and Drew raided the refrigerator laughing at each other and having a small food fight.
As they made their way out, something stumbled into the dining room. It was their first catch of the day. The drunk lay face down and was unconscious. They tied him up and had Flygon return him to the steering room. When Flygon returned, Drew put him back into the Pokeball and they resumed their quest. It took all day to find each and every one of them. Some were found lying on top of wall units, others floating in the pool. It was a hilarious and fun job. When they returned with the last one, Mr. Briney couldn’t thank them fast enough before they both fell asleep against the door, exhausted.

It was twilight when they reached Auburn Town. Little sparks of light could be seen spread evenly across the small town. The sky kept raining stars across the violet. Officer Jenny and her police crew hauled off the partiers and said that she’d ship them back to Wardy as punishment. The other passengers made their way off the ship. They had a horrible trip, but at least they were finally in Contesta.

“Wait, May, come here, I have to show you something,” Drew said pulling on May’s arm.

“But we need to-” May started but Drew urged her to come. She gave in and followed him to the bow of the ship. Before they reached the end, Drew said “Cover your eyes.” She covered her eyes playfully and he led her to the end.

“Okay, now open them,” he whispered in her ear. She uncovered her eyes. All she saw was the shooting stars across the sky. Then suddenly, one came so close, you could touch it. It shined in a thousand colors, many rainbows and sparkles glittered around it as it made its trek across the blue violet abyss.

“So? What do ya think?” Drew said as he held her in front of him.

“It’s…so beautiful,” May commented. She let him hold her by the waist as they watched the star disappear into the darkening sky. There was peace at last.

Episode 2 - Night in Auburn! Mistaken Thief!
Rated - G - yeah, a change I know. But you get to see some new Contesta Pokemon!

Days in Auburn Town felt like minutes. It was already late in the afternoon. The small town still bustled with activity as though it were still morning. Cars drove up and down the black, paved streets, turning corners with ease. The sun shifted down the buildings as thought it were wet, yellow paint. The windows glimmered into the eyes of wanderers who looked up at the wrong angle. Off to Auburn's northwest exit lay the official Contesta lab where coordinators get their first Pokemon.

.................................................. .................

"So? Where are we going?" May asked as she did her best to keep up with Drew's fast pace.

"To go see Contesta's professor. Remember we gotta sign up for the contests before we can enter them," he answered a matter a factly.

They pasted small shops and buildings that seemed to get smaller and farther apart as they headed toward the lab. Trees became more abundant as they hurried along, trying to get there before the sun was swallowed up by the night sky.

"Do you think he'll show us the new Contesta starter Pokemon?" May asked excitedly.

"Maybe," Drew answered in tone that gave May the clue that he had forgotten about that.

They were now practically out of Auburn. The forest became thicker and the sky had grown into a deeper yellow. Drew moved a branch in front of them to reveal a two story, white building. It had four glass doors in the front and windows to match all around. A balcony on the second floor was held up by two white pillars that were stuck firmly in the dirt. As they approached the building, the doors shot open and a small child ran out quickly with something in his hands. The boy wore a blue and yellow t-shirt accompanied by jean shorts. He had a baseball hat on backwards.

"Haha! You can't catch me! Try and catch me, Lily!" the boy shouted as he ran straight into Drew, almost knocking him over.

"Mikey! Now look what you've done!" a teenage girl said as she came walking quickly out of the glass doors the boy had come from, "I'm sorry for the trouble my stupid, little brother has made."

"Oh, quiet down! At least I'm not slow, fat and ugly!" the boy shouted tauntingly, getting her angry.

She was the opposite of his insults, though. She had long, curley, brown hair that fell way past her shoulders. She was thin and tall and wore glasses. She also wore a white lab coat over a purple shirt and jean pants.

"You quiet! Now give those starters back! They're for the coordinators!" she said and held out her hand.

The boy dumped the Pokeballs he had been carrying into her slender hands and got up. He dusted himself off and retreated back to the lab.

"I'm so sorry for my brother, Mikey. He tries to make my job hard by stealing these Pokemon all the time. By the way, I'm Professor Lily," she said as she held out a hand in greeting.

"Oh, it's so nice to meet you! I'm May and this is Drew," May greeted and took her hand.

"Are you guys new coordinators?" Lily asked as she let go of May's hand.

"No, we were just wondering if we could get some information and sign up for the contests," Drew informed her.

She looked very excited by this.

"Oh, well, come inside," Lily said and lead them to the lab.

Once inside, Lily helped them with getting used to Contesta and signing up for the contests. By then, it had grown dark outside and Auburn became illuminated with tiny flashes of light in each window. The lab was big and spread out. It had multiple computers everywhere, some of them on, some of them looked like they hadn't been used in years. There was a small libaray will two small bookshelves of books. Ahead of the books were two deep red arm chairs. Two stair cases lead up to the second floor from either side of the library. A few tropical looking plants were in pots scattered around the room. To the left side of the room was a doorway that lead to another smaller room.

"Oh, Lily, I almost forgot to ask you. Would you update my Pokedex?" May asked as Lily completed her work on a more modern computer.

"Let me see what kind of Pokedex you have," Lily said as she held out her hand. May fumbled with her backpack, but successfully get her Pokedex out.

"Here," May handed the tiny, red computer to Lily.

Lily examined it and said,"This is a Hoenn style Pokedex. I'm sorry, but only your provider can update your Pokedex. You must have gotten this from the field researcher, Professor Birch in Littleroot Town."

"Oh, well, that isn't good," May said in disappointment.

"Oh, that's okay. I'll just give you a Contesta style Pokedex," Lily said happily and got up for the other room. May and Drew watched her leave and quickly come back with a tiny, red item in her hand. She presented it to them. It wasn't anything special. It was a much different shape than the usual Pokedex. It was round. It looked like a compact. A tiny flap on one end allowed it to be opened. Lily lifted the screen for them to see the inside. It had the usual buttons that every Pokedex had.

"Thanks so much Lily!" May exclaimed and grabbed her new toy from the professor.

"Make sure you keep them both. I'm sure that someday you'll go back to Littleroot Town and professor Birch will want to copy the information off the Contesta Pokedex so that he'll have a working upgrade for other trainers," Lily told her.
May nodded in delight. Rustling sounds came from the other room and Drew turned around.

"What's going on in there? Lily, do you have an asistant working late or something?" Drew asked her.

Lily looked over to him, trying to understand.

"No, I'm sure they all went home," she said, confused by his question.

Suddenly, something banged in the other room and the
three rushed to see what it was. The little room looked almost like the main room. It had two computers sitting side by side on the far wall near a bookshelf full of colorful books and numerous papers. A small palm tree was in a basket pot in the corner. Further in the room was a table.

Lily gasped and said, "The three starter Pokemon! They're missing!" The table she had left them on was empty except for three Contesta style Pokedexes. One of the windows behind the table looked like it was crushed inward, the other one left open. The slightly salty wind of the nearby ocean sneaked inside through it.

"I know! Mikey stole them again! He can't help himself!" Lily fumed, changing her surprised and worry tone to a furious, aggrivated one, "C'mon! You two come with me to my house as witnesses for my brother's actions. My parents will never believe me."

May and Drew nodded and followed her out of the glass doors.

...

They had reached a nearby cottage just beyond some trees.

"She's really mad. It's just a crazy, little kid," Drew whispered to May as Lily stomped over to the door.

"Then you don't know what little brothers are like! They're such a pain in the butt!" May said, remembering her own little brother Max and how he always liked to show off his knowledge of Pokemon.

For a moment, she actually missed the little guy. She knew he'd start off his Pokemon journey any day with his Quadrapay(KWA - druh - pay). Lily rang the dorrbell. They could hear it's sweet chime from outside. An old woman, possibly in her fifties, answered the door.

"Hello? Oh hi, Lily! Shouldn't you be at the lab?" the woman asked, sweetly.

Lily answered in an annoyed tone, "Yeah, where's Mikey?"

"He should be sleeping in his room. Why?" the woman asked, confused.

"He stole my starter Pokemon, again!" Lily fumed.

"Mikey wouldn't ever do a thing like that! Especially when he should be sleeping!" her mother said in a defensive tone.

May rolled her eyes to herself. Parents always side with the younger sibling, she thought.

"Well, I got to go make sure," Lily told her and pushed her way inside. She stopped and said, "Oh, and this is May and Drew. They're a couple of my friends who can tell you now he has stolen the starters before, why, just this afternoon!"

The old woman turned her wrinkling head to them. Her hair was in a bun that was coming out and it came out further as she eyed them.

"Well, he did have them," May told her, trying to tell the news gently, so not to startle the old woman.

"It looked as though he was just doing it to annoy Lily, though," Drew said, defending Mikey.

"Well, that's believable. I don't think he'd actually steal them," the mother gave in.

Lily signaled for May and Drew to follow her up the old wooden stairs just a couple steps from the door. It was up against a yellow, wallpapered wall. They walked up the stairs smoothly and onto the second floor. The brown carpeting had numerous stains in it. The walls were the same yellow
wallpaper that they were downstairs. They reached a thick wooden door. Lily easily opened it, tryig her best to be quiet. Inside, they saw Mikey playing a
Gameboy under his blanket. Lily opened the door and flicked on the light. Her face showed her shame at wanting to be quiet, thinking he was asleep, only to find he wasn't sleeping. Under the covers, they saw him get startled and uncover himself.

"What do you want?" he asked them. He wore blue pajamas. His hair was staticy and messed up from being under the covers.

"Where are the starters, Mikey?" Lily asked angrily.

"Shouldn't you know? You're the professor," Mikey said in a tone that ticked Lily off.

May reconized this tone and shook her head in knowing all little brothers were the same.

"You stole 'em and now where are they?" Lily almost screamed.

"I don't have 'em!" Mikey told her.

She refused to believe him although nothing in his face would give anyone the thought he did it. There was no smirk, no controlled snickering, just a blank stare with big eyes that pleaded for someone to believe the story.

May came to her senses and said, "Lily, I really don't think he did it."

"What? But you two saw him this morning! He's been doing the same thing for weeks now!" Lily protested.

Drew joined the conversation, "I don't think a kid his age could do that to a window, and with such force as well. I don't think even a real person could do that."

Lily took in what he said.

She looked down in defeat and said, "Well, if Mikey didn't do it, who did?"

...

It took a while, but after getting back to the lab and calling the police, police officials and detectives were on the case. Lily stood ouside talking to an Officer Jenny. May and Drew spoke amongst themselves trying to figure the mystery out.

"You don't think it's Team Rocket, do you?" May asked Drew.

They were speaking outside. He leaned against the wall next to a window
with his arms folded. May stood next to him, facing him. The night sky was now disappearing for the police lights. They sparked red and white everywhere.

"No, they would've been caught by now. Besides, they probably followed Ash to Orre," he answered.

"Good point," May said looking down.

There was suddenly commotion going on up ahead. May and Drew ran to the seen.

"What's going on?" May asked a policeman.

He turned to her and answred in a panic, "Two Growlithe and our lead Houndoom were sucked into the ground!"

May and Drew were startled by this. Sucked into the ground? How was this possible? Then a drill machine made an appearance as it
erupted out of the ground in front of them. Some police cars were turned over. It's drill sopped spinning all of a sudden. The loud whirling of it diceased.

Over a loud speaker came a woman's voice, hard yet smooth, "Why, thank you so much, Professor Lily, for forcing the police Pokemon out here. We promise not to lose our grips on them."

"Who are you? Come out with your hands up where we can see them! Anything you say -" Officer Jenny stopped talking when it seemed as though the criminals were giving up.

The drill opened on top and out came a man and a woman who wore flight
pilot suits which were blue. The woman had on a long skirt and the man had plain blue pants. Their shoulders were pointy. The woman wore her brown hair up in a tight bun letting two bangs hang in front of her face. She was thin and tall. Her face was a little made up; red lipstick and eye liner. The man had wide eyes that were partly covered by his greasy, brown hair. They
looked like siblings. He was also tall and thin.

"Who are you and what do you plan to do with those Pokemon you captured?" Officer Jenny questioned.

"Simple. Give them to our boss for examination. You can have these back, they're much too weak. We only used them to get the police out. Thank you again, professor," the woman explained in an even tone, completely unafraid of the time she might do in jail.

She then threw the starter Pokemon's pokeballs in the air. Lily caught one, and May and Drew helped catch the other two.

"We are members of Team Gem," the man said in a deep, scratchy voice.

They could hear the wimpering of the Pokemon inside the drill.

"We're not quite finished though. We'll be taking those," the woman said and pressed a remote in her hand.

A net came out suddenly and swiped up the remaining Growlithe and Houndour. The drill then swallowed them up. The police watched them get away with what they wanted.

Lily was outraged, "You think these Pokemon are weak? I'll show you!"

Lily threw the pokeballs in the air. They releseased three Pokemon.

"Come out Furnisur(FERN - eh - sir), Weedin(WEE - din), and Seissorn(Say - sorn)!"

Out of one ball came a long necked dinosaur like Pokemon. It had a small head at the end of its long neck and had squinty eyes. It's black body was big and had three openings on either side. They glowed orange. It had a long tail and small legs and feet.

"Furnisur!" it cried in a pained, high voice.

May and Drew identified it to be Fire type. Out of another ball came out a scarecrow looking Pokemon. Its body was a bunch of dry, light green grass clippings. A small pile of those grass clippings were found on top of its head. It's head was round and jolly. It had quinty eyes and a wide smile that seemed to be sewed together. Its legs were two wooden poles and its hands were extentions of the grass from its fat body.

"Weedin!" said the Grass Pokemon in a scratchy voice.

The last Pokeball spitted out an aqua colored octopus. It had only six tentacles with little suction cups underneath each tentacle. Its head was big and so were its red eyes. The eyes were round and outlined by a horn each. It's skin was shiney and wet.

"Seissorn!" it said in a child - like voice.

The water Pokemon eased itself next to Weedin.

"Come now, professor. You can't possibly think you'll win with those three starter Pokemon do you?" asked the woman.

Lily stared at her still in blind fury.

"Dona, I think she's serious," the man said to the woman.

"Let those Pokemon go or I'll release these Pokemon's wrath!" Lily said in blind fury.

Everyone around her sweatdropped.

"Derek, please tell me she's kidding," Done said to the man, "Well, I guess we'll just have to battle her. Go, Diawarkit(DEE - uh - war - KIT)!"

The woman threw a Pokeball down in front of the starters. It opened up to reveal a large snake Pokemon. Its body was probably eight feet long. It looked much like Seviper in a way. Its head was oval shaped. It had a large crest sticking beind its head. On its neck were a couple of shiney scales that varied in color and shape, apart from its light orchid skin color. On its back
was a large gem of some kind, a darker shade of its skin color. It's two fangs that hung out of its mouth looked like the same gem its back plate was. Diawarkit hissed at the starters. They backed away frightened.

"Slithlect, go!" Derek called and threw out his Pokeball. The round ball released another snake looking Pokemon. It had a head that looked like a plug, its fangs were the plug prongs. Its eyes were big, but narrow. Its body was a thin, black wire than ran to its tail which looked like a battery pack. Half of the battery pack was yellow, but besides that, the snake was all black. It flicked its pink tougue out. May opened her new Pokedex to check the two snake Pokemon out.

"Diawarkit, the Mineral Pokemon," the Pokedex informed in a young woman's voice,"This Ground/Poison type is a close relative to Seviper. It spends most
of its time underground searching for gems to attach to its skin." May then pointed the Pokedex to Slithlect.

"Slithlect, the Plug Pokemon," the Pokedex started again,"This Electric type Pokemon is commonly seen in large cities collecting electric energy from building circuits. All of its energy is stored in its battery - like tail."

"Diawarkit! Use Earthquake on the Furnisur!" Dona told the large snake and it obeyed by crashing its tail down on the ground.

The ground trembled and only Furnisur seemed to be effected by it. Weedin and Seiessorn felt almost nothing.

"Seiessorn, use your Water Gun on that Diawarkit!" Lily told the little octopus.

It obeyed and shot out a thin stream of water heading for the purple snake.

"Slithlect, Thundershock it!" Derek called to the plug and it shot out a thick lighting bolt that fried Seiessorn.

"Weedin, use a Razor Leaf!" Lily called, but Dona countered it with a Poison Sting and knocked Weedin out.

"Drew, we gotta help Lily out. She's losing!" May said to him.

"Then I guess we have no choice. If Diawarkit is a Ground type we need a water type. But what's going to defend Icechik(ICE - chick) or Masquerain from Slithlect?" Drew asked her, trying to come up with the best stradegy.

"Roselia will," May said and then called, "Come on out Icechik!"

She threw a Pokeball into the air and blue penguin baby came out. It had a fat, yellow beak, big black eyes, and two yellow, webbed feet. Its tail was short, and it had two horns sticking out from the back of its head. Its flippers were fat, but long.

"Let's go, Roselia!" Drew called out his rose girl Pokemon.

Dona and Derek of Team Gem were startled.

"Diawarkit! Get that Roselia with a Poison Sting!" Dona yelled, pointing towards Roselia.

The snake shot white pins towards the grass Pokemon, but Icechik jumped in front of them.

"Icechik, use Water Gun!" May shouted.

Icechik let out a heavy stream of water from its bill and got Diawarkit hard.

"Slithlect! Use Thunderbolt!" Derek cried.

Slithlect went to use the elctric technique.

"Roselia, use Petal Dance!" Drew called and Roselia used the attack.

The pink petals rained down on Slithlect.

Lily got an idea and said,"Furnisur, use Sunny Day!"

Furnisur obeyed, and weakly lifted its head to the sky. Immediatly, the sky
above them became illuminated with a fake sun.

Drew caught on and said,"Roselia, use your Solar Beam!"

Roselia lifted its rose hands toward the sun and shot out a bright, white light. It crashed into Slithlect and Diawarkit and pushed them back into their trainers. During the commotion, the police were able to retrieve the stolen dog Pokemon from the drill machine. Seeing that they were caught, Dona lifted her hand and threw down a smoke ball. After the smoke cleared, they had disappeared.

"They got away again," Officer Jenny mumbled to herself.

"Who exactly are they, Officer Jenny?" Lily asked.

She had the starters standing at her feet.

"They're part of an organization called Team Gem. We're not sure what they're after, but it seems they want strong Pokemon. To them, it doesn't seem to matter how rare some Pokemon are. Starter Pokemon are much rarer than our Growlithe, Houdour, and Houndoom, yet they threw them back as if they were Magikarp," Jenny said, putting her hand to her chin. Behind her, the police squad was investigating the drill machine left behind.

"Thanks so much for helping me out you guys,"Lily said to Drew and May.

"Yes, if it wasn't for you, we'd probably be short ten cop dogs," Jenny said.

"It was no big deal, glad we could help!" May said happily.

Drew smiled along with her.

"If you guys want, you can stay at my lab for the night," Lily offered.

May and Drew agreed.
...

The next day, the three new coordinators came to start their journey. A little girl was the first to come. She had orange, curly hair and wore a light blue shirt with a black skirt. She carried a red bag over her shoulder. Lily showed the three starters to the girl and the girl immediately took Seiessorn, saying she always wanted to be a Water and Ice Coordinator. May checked
Seiessorn out on the Pokedex.

"Seissorn, the Tentacle Pokemon. This Water type Pokemon spends most of its time on the sea floor scavenging for food."

The next one was a boy. He had black hair that was pushed into his blue eyes. He wore black, jean shorts and a black t-shirt with a skull on it. He picked Weedin and said he wanted to prove that Pokemon that didn't look as nice as others could still be great contest Pokemon. May remembered Harley with his Cacturne and Bannette and agreed. She also checked Weedin out on the Pokedex.

"Weedin, the Weed Pokemon. This Pokemon stands in open fields and pastures to collect sun rays that dry up its body. It needs little water unlike most Grass Pokemon."

The next was a boy who adored dinosaur Pokemon and he picked Furnisur. He had brown, short hair, and wore long jean pants under a red long sleeve shirt. May checked Furnisur out on the Pokedex as well.

"Furnisur, the Furnace Pokemon. This Pokemon's heat energy can sometimes get too high and is expelled from the openings on either side of its body."

"Well, that's all of them," Lily said as she watched the boy go with his new Furnisur, "I'm pretty sure they'll all be heading for the Amarillo Desert to catch some Desert Pokemon. Maybe you guys should go too. The Norbrown contest won't be starting for a couple days, maybe a week."

"Oh really? Which way is to the Amarillo Desert?" Drew asked her.

"Just take the South exit of Auburn Town and follow the beach. When you reach a large rock that looks like a Muk, you're in the desert," Lily told them.

"Awsome! Then it's off to the Amarillo Desert!" May said in excitment.

"Unfortunatly, I don't have a map or guild for you guys," Lily said.

"That's ok, we'll find our way," Drew told her.

They made their way outside and to Auburn's South exit.

"Make sure you don't go into the forest and into Mangrove Pastures! Then you'll never find your way!" Lily called after them.

"Thanks, Lily! see you around!" May called back to her.

Drew and May waved back to her until she could no longer be seen through
the trees. It was the afternoon in Auburn, but the streets were still bustling with activity as if it were still morning. The sun slid down the edges of the buildings like wet, yellow paint.

Episode 3 - Illusionist of the Sandcastle! Enter Illiumead!
Rated - G

Do you ever listen to the ocean? The waves crash upon the sand, climb up, and the retreat back into the ocean. Then they repeat themselves. And climb and retreat. A gentle breeze slithers around the atmosphere, tickling the waves, sometimes making them angry. The sand is smooth and a pale yellow. Along this particular route, though, the forest meets the beach in a calm collision. The forest is thick with trees and leaves, separating the beach from Mangrove Pastures on the other side. Now the sun is going to bed, ducking under the ocean's surface, as the night spreads from above, putting on a show of color. Two Wingull caw over head, but the gentle crash of waves almost silences them. Even with all this noise, it was still peacefully quiet.

.................................................. ...........

May and Drew continued silently along the beach, not saying a word. The waves climbed up the shore, sometimes wetting their sneakers. The sun was falling fast in the sky.

"When do you want to set up camp?" May asked Drew who was walking right beside her.

He dropped his bag on the sand and said, "How about right now?"

"Um, okay," May said, a little startled by the noise the bag made as it came into contact with the ground.

...

Night had fallen. May had set up her blanket while Drew set up a fire in between them. The sky above was decorated with dozens of tiny stars. It was so clear. She sat on her blanket, facing Drew. He was now laying down on his back, moving his finger above his body, pointing at the sky, and smiled as he did it. The fire crackled and the orange glow from it outlined them both.

"What'cha doin?" May asked him in a curious tone.

He stopped and looked at her. He then said, "Just looking at the pictures. Every night, I try to find or make another one."

"You mean in the stars? That's a neat hobby. I think I've heard of that before," May said looking up to the stars and then back at him, "How many do you have so far?"

"About fifty," Drew said as he resumed back to his drawing.

"What are they of?" May asked. She decided to get up and move herself beside Drew. She set her blanket next to his and layed down on it, like he did to see what he saw.

"Some of them are just shapes, some are of Pokemon, and stuff like that," Drew told her.

"I don't see any," May complained as he outlined to himself.

He snickered, "Well then you're not looking hard enough."

"Shut up!" May shouted, "You're still so annoying."

"It's not that hard. Here look," he said and moved so that his side touched hers.

Then he picked up her hand and pointed towards the sky. She lifted her pointer finger so that it was right beneath his. He started outlining in the sky
again, this time her arm followed his movements.

"Ok, can you see this one?" he asked her.

May could make out what the picture was and saw a palm tree in the sky, its corners lighted up with stars.

"It's a tree?" May asked, almost getting happy she was catching on.

"You really stink at this, don't you?" Drew told her.

"Oh be quiet. I'm really trying here," May complained, "Oh, I seeit now. I think that's an Exeggutor." She then said, "Who taught you how to do this? Or did you pick this up on your own?"

"My mom did it with me when I was younger," Drew admitted.

He didn't seem very happy at all. A frown had over taken his face. May wondered why it didn't make him happy to think about his parents.

...

It was late at night. The fire had gone completely out and May was asleep. Drew was still awake, still drawing in the pictures in the sky. He looked over at May. She was curled up on her blue blanket. Her face looked younger and more innocent than it usually did. He watched for a while as her body lifted and fell with each breath. Drew had to look away as red streaked across his
face. He had always been able to get over the "excited" feelings he had whenever May was around and then go up to her to hide it further from her back in Hoenn and Wardy. But now, with her around all the time, there wasn't any time for that. He used to love fighting with her, just to talk to her without letting her know how he felt. Now that she knew, it didn't seem
all that appealing anymore. He regretted the way he treated her. He dosed off into a dreamless sleep.

...

The sun lifted above it's watery, ocean surface covers for a new day. It beamed into May's eyes and she awoke. She sat up and looked at Drew who was snoring with his mouth wide open. His limbs sprawled out in all directions. May laughed to herself and kicked him in the side. He awoke and lifted himself into a sitting position.

"What was that for?" he said acting like he didn't know.

It wasn't a hard kick, but it was forceful enough for him to think he was under attack.

May looked at him with a face of disgust and said, "You got something," and she pointed near her own mouth.

Drew wiped the drool away and gave her a big, dumb smile.

"That's so attractive," she said sarcastically as she got up to get her bag.

She picked it up, buckled it to her waist and continued down the beach.

"What?" Drew asked, almost laughing to himself, "C'mon, what? It's completely natural!"

May laughed to herself as she continued, ignoring him. A dark shadow suddenly surrounded her. She looked up to see that it was a giant sand castle.

"I know you can hear me! Unless you're deaf today!" Drew called as he approached from behind her.

"It's a giant sand castle," May informed him.

He looked at it. It was very tall, probably three times his size. It was made
completely out of sand. It really looked like a castle. One tall tower stood five times his size behind the sand masterpiece.

"Cool...I guess," he said, "We can't get side tracked. C'mon, we gotta get moving."

"Ok," May agreed and started to continue with him.

"Help! Someone! Anyone! I need help!" a child's voice cried from inside the sand castle.

"Huh? Drew, did you hear that?" May asked him as she stopped near the entrance to the sand castle.

"No, what are you hearing things?" Drew asked as he approached her, confused.

"Help! I need help!" the voice came again.

"That! And no, I'mnot hearing things," May cried, annoyed.

"Oh, I hear it now," Drew admitted.

He looked to May, who was looking worriedly at the entrance.

"I guess we need to help them," Drew told her.

She became happy and walked through the entrance. Drew followed her inside. It wasn't as dark as he had thought it would be. Light shone in, even though there weren't any breaks in the walls. The inside was a giant maze.

"Help!"the voice pleaded again.

"C'mon we gotta get through this!" May said and started running through the maze.

"Hey wait!" Drew said and stopped following her,"If this is just sand, we can just go through the walls, right?"

May turned around to see him try to punch the wall in.

"Don't do that! You'll have the ceiling cave in, smart one!" May yelled.

"Don't need to worry about that! These walls are hard as bricks!" Drew complained as he shook the pain out of his hand.

"C'mon, this way," May called and lead the way.

Drew followed her threw the corridors and twisting paths.

They came to a fork in the road.

"Help! Help me!" the voice cried again.

It seemed close.

"Hm, this way!" May cried and started running in the left side of the fork.

"Wait, May! It's this way! I heard it! It's stronger this way!" Drew called to her.

"No! It's this way! Let's go!" May ordered.

Drew got angry.

"I'm telling you it's this way!" Drew yelled.

"Ya know what? You go the that way and I'll go the this way!" May yelled back with an attitude.

"Fine! And when I find the kid, and you're lost, I'm not coming to find you!" Drew yelled.

"Fine! Same goes for me!" May yelled as she turned back around and ran of in the left direction

"Fine!" Drew said and ran off in the right direction.

...

May walked throught the corridors, her arms folded across her chest. She played the little fight over in her head.
"He should of listened to me! Now he's going to be lost in this dumb castle forever," May said to herself, "He's so annoying! Somedays he's cool and some days he's just...really annoying!"

"Help!" a voice cried out.

May could have swore that it was Drew's voice. She ran quickly in the direction the voice had come from. She came upon a staircase and ran up it.

...

Drew walked through the twisting hallways.
"She's so stubborn! This isn't the first time she's done something like this!" Drew said to himself as he walked through the maze.

"Help!" a voice cried out from far ahead.

"May?" Drew mummered to himself.

He came to a staircase and ran up them.

...

The staircase led to a small room. Drew reunited with May and they looked at each other in ashamed embarrassment.

"I thought you didn't want my help!" they said in unison, folding their arms and turning away from each other.

"Eel lee lee?" a Pokemon questioned from the back of the room.

It presented itself to them as it came into the light. It had a round, oval shaped head with fringes that stuck out behind its head. It's body was long and snake - like. At the end of its tail was what looked like another head. The second head had the same fringes the original head did. It's body was an orange color. It had numerous black blotches on its back.

May, forgetting about her disagreement with Drew, flipped open the Pokedex, "Illiumead(eel - lee - yuu - MEED), the Illusionist Pokemon. This Psychic/Ground Pokemon uses it's fake second head as a defense mechanism. Most people and Pokemon will run away in fright. If not, this Pokemon
will surround the opponent in a life like illusion."

"Ee lee?" it questioned again in a deep, nasaly voice.

Soon the walls of the castle disappeared into thin air.

"Ok, now I'm confused," Drew admitted scratching his head.

"Hahahahaaaa!" came a voice from behind some bushes, "That was the best prank yet!"

The man presented himself as he came out of the bushes laughing. He was a chubby man. He wore dark green overalls over a camoflauge shirt. He had on a brown hat and black hiking boots. His face was round and chubby, just like the rest of his body. A brown beard covered most of his face. He was laughing so hard that he started to tear.

"Hey! What are you laughing at? Where's that poor, lost kid?" May yelled at him.

He rolled around in laughter as he said, "There was no kid! Illiumead made up the voice and the sand castle in your minds! Even your own voices were made up by Illiumead! Hahahaaa!"

"Well, that's the last time I try to do the right thing," Drew mumbled.

The man got up and said,"I'm sorry for troubling you. We just like to prank passersby sometimes."

"That's really mean," May told him, saddened.

He looked at her in a sorry face and then lightened up, "Tell you what. Here, take this map of Contesta as our sincerest apology."

May took the map from him and said,"Well, ok. It's ok. Thanks for the map."

"No problem," the man said, "C'mon, Illiumead, let's go home."

May and Drew watched him disappear with the snake Pokemon beyond the bushes. They then continued down the beach.

...

"It was nice of that guy to give us this," May said looking at the map as she and Drew continued down the beach.

The afternoon was ending now, falling into night.

"What? He just sent us on a wild Golduck chase! And for nothing!" Drew yelled.

"Yeah, but look what we got out of it!" May said to him.

She held the rolled up map up. She opened it and gasped.

"What?" Drew asked and went to see what she was lookig at.

"I think Lily was the one who sent us on a wild Golduck chase!" May said as she eyed the distance on the map from the Armarillo Desert to Norbrown City - they were completely opposite each other.

"Yeah, but, look what we got out of it!" Drew said in an annoying, taunting voice.

He then snatched the map away from May and ran off.

"Hey! You give that back! You're so annoying!" May yelled angrily and started running after him, "C'mon! I know you can hear me!"

They ran down the beach, May flailing in anger, Drew enjoying every minute of it. The sun wasn't about to wait for their fun to end on its own though. It dared to retreat back under the ocean surface covers for another night of sleep. The waves, though, would be up all night doing what they do best - climbing and retreating against the sand.

Episode 4 - Sawbura in Need! Hunt of Poaching Pokemon!
Rated - PG-13 - for bad language.

The Amarillo Desert is named after the Spanish word for yellow - amarillo. It is covered in a yellow sand that follows the blowing of the ocean winds. Sand dunes are scattered around its area. Sometimes they disappear due to the wind and turn up somewhere else. The sky has not one cloud, just a sky blue covering that seems so low you could touch it. Nights are hot, but days are hotter. The desert's low latitude and barren wasteland like structure make it almost unbearable. Even further, there is one escape, the cooling winds by the surrounding ocean. Life finds security from the sun underground or bare it.

...............................................

"It's so hot," May complained.

She was walking beside Drew who seemed to be suffering as much as her, but keeping his mouth closed about it. He knew hot weather like this made him irritable and he didn't feel like having a fight right now.

"Yeah," he answered weakly, "What did you expect? It's a desert!"

"I know," May said, fanning herself.

They had passed Muk Rock a while ago. The sun was unbarable today. It scortched the ground and everything that was in reach.

"Why are we here?" May asked, still suffering.

"We have nothing else better to do. Norbrown's contest isn't taking place for another week," he answered irritably.

"What's that thing?" May asked him looking stright ahead.

Her hand was shielding the sun out of her eyes.

"Maybe you're seeing things," Drew started.

"I'm not seeing things! Why don't you look first before opening your mouth!" May yelled, getting irritable as well.

Ahead was a big brown Pokemon. They only saw it from behind. It's big head was sniffing in a burrow in a sand dune ahead of it. It had a long, thin tail that ended in two yellow pinchers. Its legs were medium length, bent foward as it kneeled to inspect the burrow.

"I have no clue," Drew said in defeat.

"Let's see what the Pokedex says," May said and flipped the round, red Pokedex open.

The Pokedex said, "Liequartz(LIE - kwarts), the Light Bulb Pokemon. This Rock/Electric Pokemon has very bad eye sight, and therefore always feels threatened. It will charge at will. This Pokemon is known to be the biggest trophy for sport hunters, making this Pokemon endangered."

"Wow, so it's a rare Pokemon!" May told Drew quietly, excitedly.

The Liequartz turned around and looked at them. Now they could see its whole body. It had a long face, almost beak like. Shiney yellow horns stuck out of its neck and head. It had a rounded horn that looked like a light bulb at the tip of its nose. Its front feet had long claws and its underside was protected by a silver plating. It grunted at them disturbed.

"Uh, nice Liequartz...nice...you don't want to run us over with those claws," Drew said frightened and backing away.

May backed away with him, very scared. Liequartz turned completely around and started charging. Drew and May gasped and started running for their lives.

"I don't get it! What did we do?" May cried as she ran along side Drew.

"Didn't you hear the Pokedex?" Drew said as he ran, almost out of breath, "It said they'll charge at anything!"

They ran and ran and came close to a large rock that was randomly placed.

A small brown, rodent Pokemon emerged from the rock and called them, "Saw! Saw!"

May and Drew hid behind the rock with the small Pokemon. The Liequartz ran past them. It then stopped, noticing it was chasing nothing. It then walked off as if nothing happened.

"Oh, it's a Sawbura(SAW - ber - uh)!" May cried in delight at the small, brown rodent Pokemon, "We saw a bunch of them in Wardy!"

"A what?" Drew asked.

He snatched May's Pokedex and pointed it at the Pokemon.

"Sawbura, the Mole Pokemon. This Ground type Pokemon spends most of its life in a desert burrow. Its long, sharp nose helps it drill underground."

Drew looked back at the Pokemon. It was much smaller than Liequartz. It was brown, furry, and had a long stiff nose. The nose had spikes coming out of it. The rest of its body was small and flat. It had short legs that ended in little black toes. Its tail was short and limp.

"Saw! Saw bura!" it said.

Sawbura climbed up the rock and looked back at them. It then turned towards its destination ahead and jumped down.

...

"That Sawbura was so cute!" May told Drew a while later.

"Alright! Enough about the Sawbura. We saw it hours ago," Drew told her.

"Oh! You don't understand!" May complained.

Night was falling and they set up camp near a large rock. Night fell fast afterward. The sky was as clear as it had been on the beach, but it wasn't as pleasent. There wasn't any gentle crash of waves, the shuddering of leaves in the wind, not even the chirping of night birds, nothing. A breeze slithered through sometimes, but it did so so silently that it wasn't noticed.

"Drew! I found one!" May cried.

She had picked up his drawing hobby from the other night. He hadn't joined her this night, though. Instead, he just watched her in a day dream. When she turned to him, he jumped in surprise.

He calmed down and asked, "What is it?"
"A fish!" she said cheerfully.

He looked up to see it and immediatly saw it, all constructed with big, bright stars; a sign that she was a newbie at this.

"It's one of those two second, cheap fish," Drew said, "You're happy about that?"

"Oh can it! I haven't been doing this as long as you. I had a life!" May said pretending to be disappointed, folding her arms over her chest and turned her head away from him.

"Hey-" Drew started insulted.

He was cut off by a cry that cut threw the air in a ear splitting screech.

"What was that?" May asked, still surprised by the sudden noise.

"Sounds like someone's dying," Drew admitted, his ears feeling like they would bleed.

"We have to see what's going on!" May cried.

She got up and ran ahead in the desert where the sound had come from. Drew didn't follow immediatley.

"If it's that guy and his Illiumead again I'm going to kill him! Just to let you know!" Drew shouted after her as he got up.

...

"Shut the 'ell up, ya stupid things," a man yelled as he loaded a cage full of Sandshrew onto a large pickup truck.

On the truck was a cage with little Sawbura in it. Liequartz was already loaded onto the truck in its own cage. It was charging at the bars.

"Cut that out!" another man cried.

He splashed a bucket of water on it. It backed up and wimpered. It's rock type didn't like the water and it was painful. The Sandshrew and Sawbura were scared stiff and they all were quiet, afraid it might happen to them.

"Hey! What are you doing?" May shouted.

The two men looked up at her. One was short, thin, and looked intelligent. He had on a red jacket over a black shirt and jean pants. He had brown hiking boots on and his hair was a mess of black on his head. The other man who was loading the Sandshrew was much bigger than his partner. He wore a green baseball cap on top of his fat head, covering his bald spot that stuck out in back. His pants were loose, so much so his butt crack showed when he bent down. His fat belly was covered up by a blue sweatshirt. May couldn't understand how he was surviving in it. The night air was cooler than the hot day, but it was still not worth a sweatshirt.

"Scram, girlie! We gots business!" the smaller man told her coldly.

"You guys aren't supposed to be treating those poor Pokemon like that! They don't like water, they're weak to it," May told them innocently.

"Make her hand over her Pokemon, George. I don't like her atitude much," the big one said.

"Better yet..." George, the smaller man, trailed and gave the bigger man a signal, "Come with us, we're goin for a little ride."

The bigger man grabbed May from behind, pinning her hands behind her back. His hands were squeezed around her wrists so hard it cut off most of the circulation. May cried out in pain. George exposed a dagger from his back pants pocket.

"Shut up! Or I'll-," the man had walked up to her and held the knife close to her throat. A light beam suddenly shot into him and pushed him ten feet away from May.

"Or you'll do what?" Drew asked him, daring him.

Roselia stood at his feet angrily. The big man holding May in place, let go of her, and backed up stupidly to his partner, not wanting what his partner
had gotten. May ran away from where she had been standing and over to Drew's side. Liequartz lit up the area with its shiney horns so that it could see better. The horns were now glowing a bright yellow that covered five feet all around.

"You wanna fight? You wanna fight with us, kid?" George asked, challenging Drew.

"Sure! Why not?" Drew said, daring back.

"Okay then!" the man said, stalling.

Drew caught on and egged him on,"Come on, old man, school me!"

"Ok," the man said and let out his Pokeball.

The Pokeball released a Geodude. Drew wasn't impressed.

"Ok, now either you're really dumb, or that's all you have," Drew said, knowing this was an easy win for himself.

"C'mon, Lenny, help me out here," George whispered to the bigger man.

"What do ya want me to do, George? You tol' me I couldn't have no Pokemon," Lenny answered loudly.

"The help you awr," the small man said.

"Roselia, use a Petal Dance," Drew ordered and Roselia started spinning.

Pink petals zoomed in on Geodude. It was hit directly and thrown back.

"C'mon! Do somethin'!" the small man ordered nervously.

Drew could tell he had never done this before. He was like a Growlithe with all bark and no bite. Meanwhile, May had gone around the truck and was looking for the keys to open the pens. She was looking in the driver's seat when she saw three keys, attached to each other by a key ring, in the ignition. She pulled the keys out and ran to the cage doors still on the other side of the truck, opposite the battle. Lennie, the big man, had spotted her and tried to stop her from releasing the Pokemon.

"Hey! What's you doin with George's keys? Give that here ya little ****," he asked her as he tried to grab them from her.

He decided it easier just to grab her and hold her down, just as he had done before. Luckily for May, Skitty's bad habit of coming out of its Pokeball was about to pay off. Skitty came out of its Pokeball. It then jumped to the rescue as it slapped Lennie away with its big, pink tail. Meanwhile, Drew had finished off George and his Geodude.

George returned the Pokemon saying under his breath, "Worthless piece of ****," and then looking back up to find Liequartz staring at him.

"That mean girl an' her Skitty are tryin' to let out the Pokemon, George," Lennie cried to his partner.

"No crap," George said, backing away slowly from the angry Liequartz.

It glared at them with fury. George looked for the bucket of water, but it was empty. It was on the side of their truck, over turned and too far away to reach anyway. George and Lennie smiled scared and stupidly at the ready to charge monster.

"Kwarts!" it yelled and charged.

"Ahhh! Run!" George screamed and ran for his life.

It took Lennie time to react to do the same. Liequartz chased them far into the dark horizon. May and Drew laughed at them, knowing they won't be bothering these desert Pokemon anymore. May gave Drew the other key on the key ring. May went to the Sandshrew and opened the lock. They jumped out and turned around to look at her for a thanks. They then scuried together far off. Drew fiddled with Sawbura's lock, but got it open just as successful. Sawbura looked back at them both and walked off slowly. Something was on its mind for sure.

...

May and Drew had made it back to their camp, only to get in a few hours of sleep before the sun poked up from the far off horizon. They packed their things and made their way out of the Armarillo Desert towards Muk Rock.

"I think this bread is stale," May said as she chewed on a piece of bread.

"And, what would you like me to do about it?" Drew asked her.

"Nothing! We just don't talk at all when we're walking if you haven't noticed," May told him a matter of factly.

"So you think I'm interested in your bread because..." Drew trailed.

"Saw!" came a voice from behind.

They turned around to see Sawbura. A challenging face on the critter. It was in an attack pose.

"I think it wants to battle you. Guess it saw how well you fought off the hunters, maybe it wants to try for itself," May said happily.

"No problem. I'm guessing it wants to battle Roselia," Drew said and threw Roselia out of her Pokeball.

Roselia came out, ready to battle on Drew's side as always.

"Sawbura!" Sawbura came charging with a tough Tackle, but Roselia easily dodged the basic technique.

"Use a Stun Spore!" Drew ordered and Roselia obeyed.

A fog of orange dust spewed over the little rodent. It coughed and shut its eyes.

"Now use a Petal Dance!" Drew called again and Roselia spread pink petals all around as it twirled in the air. Sawbura was hit hard with them and fell to the ground weakened.

"Go, pokeball," Drew announced and threw an empty Pokeball to Sawbura's weak body.

The ball bounced off sawbura gently and opened. Sawbura became a red light and was sucked into the machine. When closed, the pokeball shook with Sawbura's will to get out. It was no use, and soon sawbura accepted defeat and the ball stopped shaking. Drew picked it up from the sandy ground. He never thought his first catch in Contesta wouldn't be a Contesta native,
but he was satisfied. Sawbura would make a strong addittion to his team of Roselia, Masquerain, Flygon, and Flareitten.

"Awsome! A new pokemon on the team!" May said excited.

She couldn't wait to see what Sawbura had in store for them.

"Yeah, I know. That's one catch in Contesta for me. And that gives you, zip," Drew taunted again.

"What was that supposed to mean?" May asked putting her hands on her hips.

"You said we need to talk more when we walk," Drew said and continued down the road towards Muk Rock.

May didn't have any other choice but to follow. The sun had elevated to a high point in the sky. The breeze from the ocean swept through the sandy desert, picking up sand and dust as it went by. May thought to herself, maybe it wasn't sawbura that things in store for her, maybe it was Drew.

Episode 5 - Night of Golden Roses! Save Them Drew!
Rated - G

A wide, open field that stretches from the east at Auburn Town all the way west to Mangrove City. It streches north to Norbrown City and south down to the Redburn Forest. Mangrove Pastures is the world's largest plain full of nothing but open grass, speckled wth random trees and shrubs. A little more north in Mangrove Pastures is a little flower garden full of daisies, tulips, and mysteries. A small wooden town sits at its border, as its protector.

...........................
May and Drew strolled down a dirt path through Mangrove Pastures. It was a sunny day, yet it wasn't hot. A small breeze kept it cool. In the distance, a small, wooden town could be seen.

"So, May, what's the name of our next pit stop?" Drew asked her.

May was in charge of the map because it was in her bag. She took it out and unraveled it.

"Doesn't say," May told him.

"I think you need to get your eyes checked, you're always seeing things," Drew taunted.

"No, I think I need some Psyduck tape so that I can tape your mouth closed until I can prove what I see or don't see is real," May threatened him.

Drew snickered to himself. That one statement was really creative of her.

...

They walked through the tiny town. It had one dirt road that cut the town in half. Wooden buildings lay on each side of the road. Homes were loacated on the second floors of the shops.

"Ah, we have visiters!" an old woman cried and ran as fast as her old legs could carry her to them.

May and Drew stopped and turned to her as she made her way away from the store porch and out into the sunlight. She had wrinkly, white skin. Her back was bent a little forward and her hair was a white bun behind her head. She wore a flowery, pink dress, under an off white apron. Her shoes were also pink and they came from under her dress one then the other as she walked. Her eyes droopy, but still very much alive.

"Visitors! We haven't had much of those in a while!" the old woman swooped down on Drew, grabbed his hands and held them up.

A younger woman came up to greet them as well, when the old woman said, "And a cute one at that."

"Grandma!" the young woman whined as she batted the old woman in the head, "I'm so sorry for my grandmother, she still thinks she's eighteen."

"O-kay. Nothing wierd about that," Drew muttered to himself.

The younger woman turned to them. She couldn't have been older than twenty five. She had bright blue eyes and redish brown hair. She wore tight jean pants with a light, long sleeve shirt. It was a pinky orange with a white flower shape on the front.

"My name is Clover and this is my Grandmother, Frita," she told them.

"And we have a sale going on right now! Come on in!" Frita cried crazily dragging Drew along.

Clover shrugged, "Sorry about her, she's a little crazy sometimes, but won't you come in?"

"Oh, sure," May said happily.

...

"So what do you sell?" May asked as she followed Clover into the dark room inside the dark shop that was ahead of them. The door screeched loudly in its old age as it shut itself hard. The screen wiggled in the frame and then became still as before.

"Oh, my grandmother sells medicine for Pokemon and people. She's made all kinds of cures for deadly diseases," Clover answered.

"Then shouldn't this town be famous or something?" May asked.

Clover looked at her as if it was a very stupid question, but then answered, "Well, we can't let anyone find out about the town."

"Why not?" May asked again, completely letting Clover's look go over her head.

"Because Grandma doesn't want the competition to get their hands on...her secret ingredient," Clover said mysteriously, annoyed.

As the conversation between Clover and May continued, Frita was overwhelming Drew by giving him different bottles of liquids and pills. She was very happy and lively as she did it. Drew, on the other hand, was half buried under bottles and boxes.

"A little help here, May, would be great!" Drew said underneath the stack.

"No, I think I'll let you handle that yourself," May said to him, half laughing.

"I'm so sorry that Grandma is being clingy to your boyfriend," Clover told May awkwardly and walked toward Drew and the old woman.

"He's not my..." May started, but she saw Clover wasn't listening to her.

May didn't like Clover at all. She could tell Clover didn't like her either. May could also see she liked Drew a little bit too much for comfort. She let it fly over head though. He was barely a friend at times, why should she care?

"Hey, you mentioned something about a secret ingredient in these things. Well? What's in them?" Drew said referring to the medicine he had dropped on the floor in a big mess.

"A magician never tells his secrets and neither do I," Frita stated as she folded her arms and turned away from him.

"Well then I guess I can't buy any of this," Drew taunted.

"Wha what?" Frita turned back to him in disappointed shock.

"If I don't know what's in this medicine, how can I trust it enough to give it to my Pokemon? Or myself?" Drew asked in a taunting voice that let everyone know he knew he had won the argument.

"Fine! We'll show you!" Frita gave in, but her voice was still strong.

"Come with us, Drew," Clover said sweetly.

"Ahem," May stated from behind them, feeling very left out.

"You can come too, dear," Frita said to her, linking their arms.

May smiled weakly. Frita was a nice old lady. It was Clover she couldn't stand.

...

Frita and Clover lead May and Drew outside. The sun hung high in the early afternoon sky. They walked until they reached the border lines of the town. There, they could see a giant flower garden, full of color. Grass and Bug Pokemon tended the flowers alongside people who picked them and took care of them. They walked through the garden. May stood to Drew's left and Clover stood to his right. Frita was a little bit ahead of them talking.

"This town has but one purpose, to protect this garden and harvest its flowers and vegitation for medical needs," Frita told them happily, "This is where I get all the ingredients I need."

They came up to a blossoming tree, all white and pink. It arched to the right, shadowing a small statue of a Pokemon. May broke away from the group to look at it.

"Frita? What's this?" May called.

The old woman heard her and came over. Drew and Clover followed her over to where May stood next to the statue. It was a little worn, but its details were still visible. It was made of a gray stone of some kind and sat upon a column made of the same material. The statue dipicted a grasshopper looking Pokemon. It had a small, triangle shaped face with long anntennas. Hanging
from the bottom of each of the two antenna were little flowers. Its front legs were skinny, ending in one claw on each. It's back legs looked very powerful. They were bent to put it in a sitting position. It's big, round knees had a spike coming out from the top. Its body was an oval shape with two wing like
structures on its back and a plating of some kind on its underside. It ended in a whip like tail with a small flower at the end like that of its antennas.

"Ah, that's Graibow(GRAY - bow), our sworn protector. When and if we fail to preserve the garden, Graibow will be there to help us out," Frita said triumphantly.

"Graibow?" May asked as she flipped open her Pokedex.

"Graibow, the Stained Glass Pokemon. This Grass/Bug type Pokemon spends most of its time in tall grass on mountain sides in the sun. If threatened, this Pokemon uses its strong legs to jump ten feet into the air and twenty feet away from its predator." the Pokedex informed.

The pokedex showed an in color version of the statue. The Pokemon was a light green all over. Dark green was cast on its antennas, big knees, wing covers, and tail. The flowers on its antennas and tail were light blue, just like its big oval eyes. Its underside plating was an array of different colors, from blue to red to yellow to pink and purple. This is where it got its type, stained glass.

"What a cool pokemon," May commented.

"Yes, but you see these closed flowers next to the statue? They are my secret ingredient. This one patch is the only place in the world where you can find these kinds of flowers!" Frita said excitedly.

Six bushes huddled around the statue. They were dark green in color and had closed flower pods scattered within them.

"Yeah, but wat kind of flower are they?" Drew asked.

"Oh, it's a secret. We'll show you when they bloom, we believe tonight," Clover told him in a cute, yet secretive voice.

...

In a coffee shop close by, Dona and Derek of Team Gem listened in on the conversation. Dona had her hand to her ear, a small instrument used to listen in on far away sounds had picked up the information. Derek could tell they had found something good by Dona's evil grin. The grin spread as she learned more. She then put her hand down and folded it with the other hand in front of her on the glass table. They sat out on the outside porch the coffee house provided.

"So? What's up?" Derek asked.

"Something good. I think we finally have something of value here. The boss will like this little parting gift. He'll be able to finally get those doctors to get on our side," Dona said.

"Well? Don't leave me hanging! Tell me already!" Derek was getting annoyed.

He hated being a "partner".

"Some rare plants with amazing healing powers. Sound good to you? Maybe not, but to a doctor it will," Dona said in an even tone with no emotion.

Dona had always been serious with her job. She was only playful when she knew she'd get away with something.

"So? When do we strike?" Derek asked anxious and excited for another mission.

"Tonight," Dona said.

She reached into her pocket and pulled out a small, black, rectangular thing. It turned out to just be her wallet. She left a few singles on the glass table and got up.

"I can't believe you gave that guy a tip," Derek told her as they walked away from the shop,"I aksed for decaf and he gave me regular!"

...

That night, Clover showed Drew and May to their rooms. They climbed the stairs on the far wall of Frita's medicine shop on the far, right corner. Upstairs was dark and loomy. Only two yellow lights were used to light up the small hallway. Along the hallway were doors leading to bedrooms. The stairs lead them to Frita's room immediatly. When they turned in the opposite
direction to follow the rest of the hall, there was a little bathroom to the side. Up ahead, there were three rooms for guest staying. The first one was Clover's room. The door was slightly open. Inside there was a singlton bed and a dresser opposite the bed. Next to Clover's room was another room shut off by a door. Clover grabbed the handle, turned the gold knob and opened
it gingerly.

"This will be your room Drew," she said in a sweet, puke worthy smile.

A smirk thrown to May for just a moment. The room looked like Clover's room. It had a singlton bed against the wall and a dresser opposite it against the other wall. There was a window that over looked some of Mangrove Pastures. The late afternoon sun shone in from the glass window. Yellow streaked against the wooden furniture. Drew walked into his room. Clover turned back
into the hallway with May. She came to the last door and opened it forcefully. The room looked like the others, except there was no window. It was blocked up by bricks.
"Sorry, Grandma had some renavations that she never finished. Hope you understand," Clover said tauningly and slammed the door as she walked out.

"Why does she hate me so much?" May asked herself.

...

Late at night, May lay awake in the bed thinking. Clover had become more intolerable as the day went by. And she thought Frita was clingy to Drew? Please! Suddenly the door busted open, interupting May's thoughts.

"May! C'mon, they're going to show us the plants now. They're blooming," Drew told her, in a calmer voice than she was expecting to hear.

"Why'd you open the door so loudly? You scared me half to death!" May asked.

"Well, for one thing the door's practically coming off the hinges," Drew informed her, showing her that the bottom hinge was so old it had rusted and broken in half.

"That room sucks. If you wanted we could've traded," Drew told her.

"I don't need you stinkin' room!" May yelled and stormed off down the stairs.

"Okay," Drew said to himself.

His wished that when he tried to be nice she would be nice back, but it never seemed to land in a good time. Then it hit him.

"Oh, I get it," Drew said, knowing he had figured it all out as he followed her down the stairs.

May was jealous, even if she didn't know it or was denying it.

...

Frita was waiting for them outside. She lead them to the statue where the bushes were lined up. Clover was already there, watching the bushes as they sat there doing nothing. Frita, May, and Drew caught up just in time. The moon poked out from behind a dark cloud and beamed onto the garden. The white light from the moon hit the bushes as well and they sprung into life. The
flower buds that were scattered within the bushes suddenly opened to reveal golden roses. Each petal sparkled with a yellow glow.

"Yes, my secret ingredient is the legendary golden rose. Golden roses are immortal plants, they never die. These same bushes have been in my family for generations. When added in my medicine, they cure any pain, and that's why my medicine is top of the line. So, you see now why I can't let anyone know about them. They'd try to take them away," Frita explained.

"I understand now. They are beautiful," May complimented and Frita smiled a wrinkly smile.

Suddenly, the ground shook from beneath their feet. The bushes seemed calm until they were sucked underground.

"My roses! Where did they go?" Frita cried frantically.

A drill machine popped up from the ground. I was a big machine with a large drill in front. At the top were small windows where Dona and Derek of Team Gem looked on from. At the bottom was a large window that held the rose bushes. The window provided the moonlight they needed to stay in bloom. Dona giggled over a microphone inside.

"Well, well, well. Derek, look what we have here. It's the same two brats that foiled our plans in Auburn Town," Dona said over the microphone.

"What? Team Gem?" Drew asked, surprised they'd make another appearance.

"Great! Now Grandma's prized flowers are going to two nut cases and it's all your fault!" Clover yelled at May and pointing at her.

"Clover, calm down," Frita urged.

"Yeah, May didn't want to see hem, I did," Drew informed her with the same force in his voice Clover had expelled herself, "And don't worry, Frita. We'll get those bushes back."

"How are you proposing to do that?" Derek asked over the microphone he had grabbed from Dona, "This drill is made of pure steel!"

"Steel, a?" Drew said, his arms folded, "Come out Flygon and Flaritten!"

Drew threw two Pokeballs and soon his dragon and kitten Pokemon emerged. Bulbasaur and Roselia released themselves from their Pokeballs.

"Hey, what's going on?" May questioned.

Soon, other grass Pokemon emerged from out of the flower garden.

"They sense the danger of a plant species. They want to help it survive," Frita told her seriously.

Hoppip, Gloom, Weedin, Bellsprout, Oddish, and other grass Pokemon, as well as Bug and Water types surrounded the drill.

"Flareitten, use a Flamethrower on the drill!" Drew called to Flareitten.

The cat shot out a bright flame from its mouth. It melted the drill structure.

"No big deal. We'll still get out of here. All we have to do is run you all over!" Dona said and went to start the engine.

Sleepy people began to emerge from the small homes and buisinesses of the town to see what was going on.

"Flygon, Rock Smash that window!" Drew called to his green dragon.

Flygon lifted itself into the air and smashed Team Gem's window, exposing them from the inside.

"Diawarkit! Come out now!" Dona said as she threw her pokeball to the ground to expose her giant, purple snake.

"Slithlect!" Derek cried and let out his wire and battery Pokemon, "Use your thundershock on that Flareitten!"

Slitlect shocked Flareitten, irritatling its flying type. The shock knocked the fire cat out.

"Return Flareitten," Drew said, disappointed.

May went to reach for one of her Pokemon. She tried to decide which Pokemon she could choose. Icechik and Beautifly stood no
chance with Slithlect. Combusken stood no chance with Diawarkit.

"Go, Munchlax!" May called out the fat Pokemon.

"Diawarkit, give that Flygon a taste of your Ice Beam!" Dona called.

Diawarkit shot out a light blue beam. Flygon dodged best it could, but it had no room to attack again. Drew realized he was in trouble. Meanwhile, the wild Pokemon banged against the glass that separated them from the rose bushes inside Team Gem's machine. Flygon was hit with the Ice Beam and crashed to the ground.

"Munchlax, use a Body Slam to slow Diawarkit down!" May told her Pokemon.

Munchax made its way quickly to Diawarkit, only to be zapped away by the defending Slithlect. The two snake Pokemon brought both Pokemon down.

"Oh, if only Graibow would appear..." Frita said sadly.

Then an idea struck her.

"Grass and Bug Pokemon! Call for Graibow! It might just hear you!" Frita called to the Grass and Bug Pokemon trying to free the rose bushes.

All the Grass and Bug type Pokemon, including Blubasaur ad Roselia called for Graibow. They shouted into the sky. Beautifly and Masquerain jumped out of their Pokeballs to help.

"Silence them with your Flamethrower, Diawarkit!" Dona said to her snake.

"Diawarkit sure it full of surprieses..." May muttered to herself.

She hoped afterward they would never have to deal with it again. Diawarkit shot a steady flame at the Grass and bug types. Some were knocked out, but the survivers kept a steady call. Then, from behind Team Gem, flew out a large Pokemon. It landed in between Team Gem and Drew and May. It was Graibow. It was a very big bug Pokemon, standing nearly five feet tall.

"What a strong and rare looking pokemon..." Dona murmured to herself.

"Diawarkit!" Dona called.

"Slithlect!" Derek called.

Both snakes knew what to do. They started to wrap themselves around Graibow. Graibow had no time for foolishness and spread a Sleep Powder on them from the flowers on its antennas. Slithlect and Diawarkit fell into a deep sleep. Graibow took no time so Double Kick the windows that penned in the bushes. The glass shaddered and numerous Pokemon started to help get the bushes out with much care.

"I don't think so, Graibow!" Dona said and pushed a button in her hand.

A net flew down from a small compartment on the drill machine and over Graibow. It scooped the grasshopper up into the air. It struggled, but it was no use.

Drew reacted to the situation, "Roselia, use Magical Leaf!"

About ten Roselia, including his own, shot out a Magical Leaf attack at his command towards Team Gem. Now occupied with the leaves, Team Gem
was unaware of their surroundings.

"Bulbasaur! Use a Razor Leaf to cut the net open!" May ordered and Bulbasaur obeyed.

It let out two, razor sharp leaves from its bulb and sliced the net open. Graibow fell to the ground, landing on its feet.

"Hey, Dona..." Derek said frightfully when he opened his eyes when the Magical Leaf stopped.

An angry Graibow glared at them. Dona turned to look at it. Graibow bent its front legs down and its back legs became straight. A fake sun appeared over its body. The Grass Pokemon absorbed the sunlight.

"Ah, Graibow is using Sunny Day," Frita commented.

When the grass Pokemon looked ready, Drew shouted, "Solar Beam!"

Each Grass Pokemon shot out a colorful beam of light towards Team Gem. An explosion and cloud of dust was the outcome. When it cleared, Team gem was no where to be found.

"Did they hit them? Did they go 'blasting off'?" May asked as she approached Drew.

"Who knows? As long as they don't come back," Frita said as she looked to the sky. It began to brighten as the sun poked up from far away in the east.

"What? Morning already?" Drew complained, "Ya know, May. I used to get a lot more sleep than this before you came along."

"Oh, well! Excuse me!" May said putting her hands to her hips.

Frita walked over to Graibow and the Pokemon that stood at its feet.

"Thank you so much. Without you, the Golden Rose would be extinct," Frita thanked them.

She turned to May and Drew with a smile of thanks also.

"Gray," Graibow finally spoke in a soft, quiet, almost cildish voice.

It turned and jumped high into the air, disappearing into Mangrove Pastures' tall grass.

"I want you two to have this. My famous Pokemon medicine! The best I have as a small thank you for saving the flowers," Frita said and handed May a dark bottle of some sort of liquid.

"Wow, your welcome and thank you," May said.

She put the bottle into her yellow bag.

"And I want to thank you so much for saving our plants, Drew," Clover said to him in a sweet voice holding his hands in hers.

"Ok, it's time to leave. Hope we see you around some time. Goodbye," May said and dragged Drew away from Clover's grasp.

Frita and Clover waved goodbye to them as they left the tiny town.

...

The sun was in an early position and the winding path to Norbrown City lay right in front of May and Drew.

"You really didn't like that girl Clover did you?" Drew said tauntingly.

"She was an annoying, stupid, mean little witch and I hope I never see her again!" May shouted.

Her fists were clenched tightly in front of her.

"I know she gave you a bad room, but is she really a witch because of that, or was there something else that she did?" again Drew tried to make her tell him the truth.

"She was just annoying!" May said, her face becoming a little red.

"Hey I got something," Drew told her, reaching into his own bag.

"Clover gave it to you, didn't she," May said accusingly.

"No, but I'm giving it to you," Drew said and handed her a napkin with something inside.

He walked ahead of her as she slowed down to see what it was. She unwrapped the napkin to find a rose, not only that, but a gold
one. It was still in bloom.

"C'mon! If you keep stalling we'll never get to Norbrown City. If we miss the contest, I'll blame you!" Drew told her from twenty feet away on top of a hill on the path.

May ran to catch up to him.

"Oh shut up and keep walking," May said with a smile.

They continued down the long road towards Norbrown City. The area around was a plain of grass, scattered with trees, and a mountain in veiw up ahead.

Episode 6 - Turning Lake Ball! Dance of Skies!
Rated - PG-13 - For bad language and *stuff* <--no spoilers for you! XD

With a surface of glass, calm breezes, and a small forest shaping the land, Turning Lake is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Year after year, Bug Pokemon gather like clock work to meet their match, and then fly into the sun set together. With this annual and natural occurence, people have begun to fit themselves into the pattern, throwing parties and feasts at the lake's edge. But, what kind of love can come out of this? Not all love is good...

.................................................. .....

A small breeze swept down the path, picking up dust and then letting it settle in a new place, a new home.

"It's gotten windy since we got out of Mangrove Pastures," May said to her partner Drew, who was walking right next to her.

He wasn't paying a lot of attention to her. He laughed to himself eveytime the breeze pasted through. Some wind started to gust and May started her whining.

"Oh, why is it so windy!" May asked.

"What does this remind you of?" Drew asked, finally about to tell what he had been laughing at.

"No. what?" May asked turning to him.

"Oh c'mon. Dust out those cobwebs. Think about it! A windy day, two bored kids..." Drew edged on.

"Are...are you saying I'm dumb?" May exclaimed.

"N-I mean, yeah. Yeah, May, your dumb as a pole," Drew said.

He almost lost a chance. May gave him a look, telling him silently that she didn't buy it.

"C'mon! What does a windy day and two bored kids remind you of? Childhood movie ring a bell?" Drew tried again.

May thought for a while.

"I got nothing," May confessed.

"Let's go..." Drew began to say, sing songy.

May caught on, "Fly a kite!"

"There ya go!" Drew told her, laughing now that it was in the air, "Cobwebs all out?"

"That's it! I'm gonna help you knock your cobwebs out the old fashioned way!" May yelled and went to grab his head.

He dodged and started to run.

"You get back here you big Torchic!" May yelled again.

"Tor chick chick chick!" Drew taunted to her.

May ran faster at him. He stopped short and she kept running for a few seconds. She then stopped at the top of a hill. She looked over the hill at a giant, ocean sized lake. Its surface was waving in the wind, but it was still clear like a mirror. It reflected the beautiful day above it. Tall evergreen trees circled it in dotted lines and patterns. Off to May's left was a thick forest of the evergreens. Along the lake edge were tents of different colors. Behind a large evergreen were small shops. It looked like a carnival.

"Hey Drew, I think a carnival's in town!" May shouted.

Drew took this as a perfect chance to annoy May with a familiar statement he uses, "You need our eyes checked again?"

"That's it! Where's the Psyduck tape!" May asked into the air, "No, really, look."

"I know, I see it," Drew admitted.

"Let's see what's going on!" May exclaimed in excited joy, and ran down the hill into the campsite.

Drew followed her, walking.

...

The campsite was dead. There was almost no life. Not a soul stirred, not a movement could be picked out. They must have all been sleeping in still. Then, some rustling came from a tent off to May and Drew's left. A small girl and ball of fluff tumbled out of a red tent. They started running towards May and Drew, unaware of them. The little girl looked up and saw them. She stopped and stared. Her little fluff ball Pokemon did as well. The girl had brownish red hair, all curly on her head. Her skin was pale and full of freckles. She had bright blue eyes and a skinny body. Her clothes consisted of light blue jean shorts and a blue blouse. The Pokemon at her feet did not grow past her knee. It was a very light purple, almost white color. It literally was a ball of fluff. It had two dark purple feet and long antenna that reached up and bended from on top its head. It had large oval eyes and a mouth almost covered up by its fur.

"Hi, are you here for the Dance of Skies festival?" the little girl asked.

"See? I told you something was going on!" May told Drew.

"There's a festival going on? Where is everyone?" Drew asked the little girl, almost ignoring May's comment.

"Oh, there was a big, late night party last night, so everyone is still sleeping," the girl said, "My name is Fran, and this is Foamy, my Foamite(FOE - might)."

The girl pointed down to the fluff Pokemon.

"I'm May, and this is Drew. What a cute pokemon," May commented and opened her Pokedex to it.

"Foamite, the Fuzz Pokemon. This normal type Pokemon can easily be found in cotton fields eating cotton. They are known to nusences to farmers." the pokedex informed them.

"Fo!" Foamite said happily.

"What exactly is this festival celebrating?" Drew asked the girl as the Pokedex stopped talking.

"The Dance of Skies is a mating ritual for Flying Bug pokemon. People have been coming here to enjoy the good weather and pretty dances of the bugs for years. This is my third year that I can remember. Won't you join us?" Fran pleaded, "It's lots of fun!"

"Sorry, but we're on our way to Norbrown City before we don't get to the contest in time," May told her apologeticly.

"Oh! You guys are coordinators! Cool! But I think you got your information wrong," Fran told them.

"Huh? What do you mean?" Drew asked.

"Norbrown isn't having their contest for another week in consideration for the festival here," Fran said cutely.

May and Drew fell to the ground in embarassment.

"How does Lily annoy me without even being here?" Drew said when he and May recovered.

"What are we going to do until then?" May asked him.

"The festival is still here..." Fran trailed.

"I guess then we'll stay for it. Besides, I'm sure Beautifly and Masquerain will like it," May pointed out.

Drew nodded in agreement.

...

Night had fallen over the campsite, and little by little, people emerged from the tents to enjoy the festival. May and Drew were led around the area by Fran. Foamite stayed close behind her, trying its best to keep up with its short legs.

"You guys are really lucky to have come so early in the festival," Fran explained as they passed some carnival style games, "It practically just started!"

The carnival bustled with young couples and families with young children. Bells rang, balloons popped, and "You won a prize!" traveled through the air. The floor was covered in litter and the smell of sweet treats made its way to May's nose.

"I smell doughnuts!" May said happily.

Drew tried his best to resist buying her anything. He knew in a place like this with a girl like that, it only took time to have your wallet open for any schemeing carny.

"Don't waste your money," Fran said, "They smell good but that's it! I had some yesterday and they had no taste!"

Drew thought, "That's usually the case..."

They walked out of the carnival and to the lake's edge. There, flying bug pokemon could be seen flying over the water, dancing in circles around each other. Butterfree, Beedrill, Ledian, Beautifly, and many more were flying overhead. Many had found partners already. Others were seen trying their hardest for the mate of their dreams, failing.

"Beautifly, come on out," May said as she threw Beautifly's Pokeball into the air.
The pretty butterfly came out of the pokeball and twirled in the sky, showering shiney sparkles below it.

"Come out, Masquerain," Drew called and threw Masquerain's Pokeball out.

The blue bug came out of its pokeball with a cry. When it saw Beautifly, it flew over for a friendly hello. Beautifly accepted and cried a hello back.

"Aw, they're so cute!" Fran exclaimed.

"Thanks," May said as she turned to Fran.

"Fran, say good bye to your friends. It's getting late for you," Fran's mother called from somewhere.

Fran looked disappointed, but obeyed her mother like a good little girl.

"By guys. I have to go now," Fran told them and ran towards the carnival.
"Bye, Fran," May and Drew waved goodbye.

Masquerain and Beautifly turned around to view the other bug Pokemon over the lake. They immediatly knew what was going on. Masquerain lowered itself below Beautifly in the sky. In Pokemon language, it was about to ask Beautifly for a dance, but it was cut off. A large, butterfly pokemon swooped in on Beautifly. It bumped Masquerain out of the way. The butterfly looked similar to Fran's Foamite, having light purple, to white fluff covering its head and long body. Its feet and antenna that were bent out were dark purple. It had big, oval eyes and a mouth almost covered by its fur. Unlike Foamite, it had huge butterfly wings with two fingers at the ends of its top wings. The top wings were salmon pink with purple, jagged patterns outlining the outter rim. The bottom halves looked the same as the top halves, but smaller and no fingers. The bottom halves also had two, long "tails" each.

"Heir? heir king king," the butterfly said to Beautifly.

Beautifly blushed a little.

"Heirking(AIR - king), I see you've found a match," an older boy said from the lake's edge.

The boy must've had two years on Drew, making him sixteen. He had pitch black hair with a patch of it a light brown color. He was tall and muscular. He wore a long shirt that had buttons going down the front. The shirt was black and had flames on it. His pants were baggy and he wore white sneakers. A white rock necklace choked his neck.

"Heir!" the butterfly answered and then went back to flirting with Beautifly.

Eventually, it asked Beautifly for a dance and she excepted, forgetting all about poor Masquerain.

"What kind of Pokemon was that?" May asked as she once again opened te Pokedex.

"Heirking, the Sky King Pokemon. This triple typed Normal Bug Flying Pokemon is the evolved form of Foamite. It rules the skies with an iron fist, so much so that even bird Pokemon try thier best to say out of its territory." the Pokedex finished.

"With such a dependent and outgoing personality, I couldn't blame your pretty little Beautifly," the boy said complimenting both Pokemon.

May said, "That was a cool Pokemon!"

The boy seemed to enjoy her. Apart from them stood Drew. Masqauerain came close and landed on his shoulder, angry in rejection before it even had a chance. It felt cheated somehow. It refused to look as the Heirking danced with Beautifly. Eventually, Drew could hear the boy introduce himself as Jake. He then could have sworn that he heard flirting. Drew became sullen and quiet, but he refused to allow them to be alone. Something about Jake made Drew uneasy, and it wasn't because he was hitting on the girl Drew was trying to get to know and be with. Just something in the way he kept looking up to him every now and then, the way he rudly came into their business, the way he shifted from side to side, the way he looked like he had just caught a fish on a hook as he spoke to May.

...

The next day, Drew awoke to find morning. He got up on his blanket and stared out to the lake. It looked just as it did yesterday, its surface of glass. Some bug pokemon fluttered together above the lake. Drew turned to May. She was still sleeping peacefully on her own blanket. Nothing happened last night. She had ended her conversation with Jake and told Drew that it was time for bed. Drew shook the memory away and saw Masquerain sleeping close to Beautifly, like it was insecure about something. He looked back to the water. He heard May stir and stretch. She then got up into a sitting position much like his and stared striaght ahead like him. Waking up for the day became a trend as Beautifly ad Masquerain opened their eyes and awoke.

"Good morning!" May said cheerfully.

"Oh no, the morning person is here," Drew mumbled to himself, but loud enough for May to hear.

"Oh no, it's the cranky person, everyone run!" May exclaimed as she referred to Drew.

"Good morning, Beautifly," a deep voice from behind them said.

Drew had only heard the voice once, but could tell who is was. Jake.

"Hi, Jake," May returned to him as she got up.

Something in his voice made Drew aware that Jake wasn't referring to May's bug when he said that. Heirking showed up from behind him. Masquerain became enraged, but tried to keep it to itself, taking on one of Drew's characteristics. Beautifly raised into the air and greeted the giant butterfly.

Before Masquerain could become even more enraged, Drew said, "Well, I'm going to get breakfast, you wanna come May?...Jake?"

"No thanks, little dude," Jake said, "C'mon May."

They walked behind the bushes and up to the carnival. Drew didn't appreciate being called little or having May be taken off somewhere without hearing her answer first.

"C'mon Masquerain," Drew said sulkly.

Masquerain followed in the same manner as it watched Heirking take Beautifly out to the lake.

...

Drew got fast food from a stand. It was some breakfast sandwich. He tried to give Masquerain some of it, but it refused to eat. Drew knew now how depressed the bug was, it would usually steal these out of his hands and eat the whole thing itself. Drew leaned on a boardwalk rail, looking out to the lake. Every once in a while, a breeze would comb through his green hair and rustle his jacket. Masquerain's eye like antenna would sway back and forth. They could sometimes point out where Beautifly and Heirking were on the lake. Masquerain would then turn its head away in rejection.

"Foamite!" a familiar voice said from behind.

Drew turned his head to look straight into Fran. She gave him a big warm smile. Drew snickered.

"Ice cream for breakfast?" he asked as he turned back to the lake.

Fran was holding a vanilla ice cream cone in her hand.

"Daddy said i could," she confirmed.

She looked at Masquerain.
"What's wrong with your Masquerain?" Fran asked concerned.

"We'd rather not talk about it," Drew said, sparing Masquerain's feelings.

"Ok, well, where's that girl you were with?" Fran asked.

"May? She's somewhere," Drew said and bit into his sandwich.

Fran climbed up onto the railing so that she could look him straight in the eyes.

"How could you not know? Isn't she your girlfriend?" Fran asked loudly.

Drew's stomache turned at the thought and a bit of red found a place of his face.

"No, not really," Drew answered.

"Oh, I figured you guys were. You were traveling together, your Pokemon like each other, and...your blushing," Fran pointed out.

She didn't mean to cause any trouble, but that's how little kids are. Masquerain became a little ticked off by the way Fran kept pushing that button, inferring Beautifly. Drew looked down in defeat. There was no way to talk to a little girl about anything without them figuring it out.

"Don't worry, Masquerain. You can fight for her on Choosing Day!" Fran said excitedly.

"Choosing Day?" Drew asked, happy that another subject had come along so quickly.

"Yeah, Choosing Day! On that day, boy bugs can battle each other to see who deserves the girl the most. I think it's tomorrow," Fran said innocently.

"Foamite Foam!" the little fluff ball cheered below her.

Fran got off the railing and started to walk away.

He turned back to Drew who watched her go and said, "I have to find my mommy now."

"Ok, see you around, Fran," Drew said to her with a smile.

"Oh, and that guy with the Heirking is mean," Fran added and ran away into the carnival.

Drew and masquerain looked at each other. They knew that already, but when will May find out?

...

Meanwhile, May only hung around with Jake for a little while.

"Who's that guy?" Jake asked May as they strolled down the lake's edge.

It was sandy, cool and calm. Across the lake, bug Pokemon flew together.

"Oh, that's Drew," May told him.

Jake kicked a rock down the path. A breeze stirred up and ruffled with May's hair, but Jake's stayed still with all the gell in it.

"Oh," Jake replied, "You guys going out or something?"

May was startled by this, but answered, "No, I don't think so."

"Good, because he looks like a loser. You could get better than that," Jake replied again.

He fumbled with his hands in front of him, keeping his eyes straight ahead. May was confused about his intentions.

"Well, he's not. He's a much better coordinator than me," May stated.

Jake looked at her in 'you must be kidding' look. He turned his head back to the path. He snickered.

"Well, I should go now. See you again sometime," May said and scooted back down the way they had come. She walked up the sandy path and then up into grass. She soon reached the colorful carnival. It was still bustling with people, but not as much as last night. She looked up and down the isles of stands for Drew. She could see him coming from the boardwalk. He seemed to not be all there, as if he were stuck in thought. May greeted him and he snapped out of it.

"So, what did you do?" Drew asked her.

"Nothing really," May answered, "I think we're becoming really good friends."

This relieved Drew a little. If Jake got stuck in the friend zone, it would be difficult for him to get out, making an easier time for Drew to get back in the race, sorta speak.

"What did you do?" May asked him.

Masquerain was still perched on his shoulder.

"Oh, we had breakfast. I spoke with Fran again," Drew told her.

"Isn't she so cute?" May commented.

Drew shook his head as he said, "Yeah, sure."

...

The rest of the day was slow and boring. May and Drew walked together for some time. Beautifly came back and Masquerain ignored her. May had asked of Masquerain's actions, but Drew thought it better not to go on the subject, again sparing Masquerain's feelings. Night fell. The sky had been a rainbow of color as the sun set under the evergreens. The lake's second sky reflected a beautiful picture of fire and cool colors. Drew sat alone on the beach where they had decided yesterday to sleep. May had gone to the carnival to find dinner of some sort. Drew wasn't hungry and thought she could handle herself. As much as he hated it, Fran was wrong, they weren't going out, nor did he think they could be called friends. Masquerain sat on the sand. Beautifly had gone with May. It stared out at the horizon, pain stricken. May and Beautifly returned with their food and started to dig in.

"Why didn't you get anything?" May asked.

"I wasn't hungry," Drew said.

Then he didn't say anything else. He couldnt find it in him to nag her, playfully tease her, or anthing that had made their relationship worth while. May noticed this a little, but just took it as he was tired, or something to that extent.

...

The next day, May and Drew got up as they did yesterday, but it was much more quiet. Jake made his usual round and took May away for the morning. Drew and Masquerain became enraged on the inside, calm and collected on the outside, a very unique skill for the two of them. May had assured yesterday that Jake was just a friend to her and nothing more, but something wasn't right about Jake. He sure didn't see May as just a friend. And what Fran had said - "That guy with the Heirking is mean." - it was almost like she knew what was going on.

"Masquerain! Mas!" Masquerain told Drew in a determined tone.

Drew knew that it wanted to take Fran up on her offer and fight for Beautifly. It was very out of character for Drew to do such a thing, but he couldn't resist helping out his pokemon, it had done so much for him in the past, why not? Masquerain flew away to find Heirking. Drew went to find Jake. By now, May must've left to find him in the carnival, which was perfect because he
didn't want her to watch anyway. He forced himself to believe he was only doing it for Masquerain. He found Jake sitting on the beach looking out to the lake, obviously watching the romance of Heirking and Beautifly. He smirked to himself on how well of a job he had done.

"Hello, Jake, what's up?" Drew started off calm, and friendly, even though that was the last thing he wanted to do. He had always been taught that it was better to finish things rather than start them. Who knows? He could even be wrong about Jake and it could all be a misunderstanding. Wrong!

"Look who it is, the loser May hangs out with," Jake started, "I don't see the advantage she has with sticking around with you."

Drew took this a good chance for the final straw.

"Well you're nothing special either," Drew told him, trying his best not to become blindly angry.

"May told me you were a coordinator," Jake started again, "What are you? Gay?"

"What are you? Unemployed? A rookie trainer? A loser trainer? Just a loser?" Drew began his list of things he really thought of Jake.

"I am a good trainer! Better than some ***got coordinator!" Jake yelled back.

Drew was pleased. His insults worked finer than he had hoped. Even though he thought poorly of Jake, he still expected him to keep calm and have loads of back up lines.

"Ah! Er! Air!" came some noises from out on the lake.

Drew and Jake turned to see Masquerain and Heirking going at it, Beautifly trying to stop them.

"Heirking, get over here!" Jake ordered.

The fluffy butterfly flew over to him and reported for duty.

"Masquerain, come!" Drew called out to Masquerain.

The blue bug flew over to him. Beautifly followed.

"Oh, look! A ***gy trainer has a ***gy Pokemon," Jake sneered.

Drew thought quickly and said, "Who's the bigger ***? The guy with a blue bug or the guy with the pink butterfly?"

Jake had broken down just a little and said, "That's it! I challenge you to a match! One on one! Your dumb Masquerloser against my HeirKING!"

"I accept," Drew said.

"Perfect, I've been waiting to knock you out of the competition for a while now. Not that May would have gone with you anyway," Jake told him.

"This isn't about May," Drew lied to himself.

"Yeah, ok," Jake said, "Start the match!"

"Masquerain, use Bubble!" Drew ordered.

Masquerain shot out numerous blue bubbles at Heirking. It was blown back, but it was so powerful, it didn't seem to be effected in anyway.

"Heirking, use Signal Beam!" Jake ordered his Pokemon.

The butterfly shot out a blue and red beam from its mouth that hit Masquerain with such force, Drew's stomache turned with fright. Masquerain was blown back far, and just barely kept itself in the air. It breathed hard. The only thing that kept it going from this point on was its love for Beautifly and hate for Heirking.

"Now use a Double-Edge!" Jake called.

Drew was worried about Masquerain, but he knew it wanted to go on, just by the look in its eyes.

"Masquerain, use a Silver Wind," Drew told it.

Heirking was coming fast with a Double-Edge. Masquerain's diamond shaped wings at the bottom of its body glowed white. It then flapped them quickly to release the attack. It hit Heirking with a lot of force, but it was back again to finish the attack. It only seemed to delay it.

"Masquerain, keep a steady Silver Wind!" Drew told it.

Masquerain started the attack again. It delayed Heirking some more. Beautifly was located to the sde of the battle in the air between Jake and Drew. It was looking down in defeat as it didn't wish for this battle, but it couldn't stop it either.

"Heirking, use a Signal Beam to cut into that Silver Wind!" Jake called.

Heirking shot out the blue and red beam again. It cut through Masquerain's pitiful Silver Winds, creating a path for Heirking's Double-Edge. Masquerain fell to the ground with a slam.

"And it looks like we're just about done here," Jake started to say.

Drew ran to Masquerain's side. Masqueran pushed him away and tried to go on, but it fainted. Beautifly looked down at it in pity and sadness. It knew that Masquerain did it for her, and only her. Heirking flew over to Beautifly and started to boast. Beautifly looked away, no longer amused.

"Heh, you are a loser. I don't expect May to stay with you for very long," Jake taunted.

Drew didn't answer him. He was too preoccupied with Masquerain. It lay on the sandy ground, eyes closed. Drew was on his knees next to it and picked it up. It's body was limp, but it was still very much alive. It opened its eyes and tried to get out of Drew's grasp. It then gave up in a blind stuggle and settled down in his hands. Beautifly was lead away by Heirking and Jake had walked toward the carnival. He was obviously looking for May to tell her how much he had kicked butt in a battle. Drew brought Masquerain back to the little camp site and cleaned it up. Thank goodness for Frita and her medicine! They cured all of Masquerain's aches and bruises, but they could never repair Masquerain's feelings. Drew tried again to feed it, but it refused as usual. Drew then let out his other Pokemon, and they huddled together and ate whatever he had brought back from the carnival. Flareitten, Drew's orange fire cat, walked over to Masquerain. It offered a friend to him as it sat down, its long wings projecting into the air. Masquerain blew it off, and Flareitten gave up. When Flareitten went back to the bunch of Pokemon to found nothing left for it. It looked angrily at Flygon, who gave it a dumb grin. Sawbura offered the rest of its food and Flareitten took it graciously. As this went on, Drew tried to play the fight over again in his head to see where they went wrong. He couldn't find anything. It seemed as though Heirking was just better trained. Drew understood why, though. Heirking must be Jake's only pokemon, so he has all the time in the world to train it. Drew has the same time, he realizes, but he has to split it amongst Roselia, Masquerain, Flygon, Flareitten, and now Sawbura.

...

May returned to the campsite right before the sun put on another light show.

"Where have you been all day?" Drew asked her.

"Oh, I was walking around the carnival with Skitty and Munchlax. You would not believe how much garbage Munchlax ate! Everytime I turned around, there he was, in the can," May said, laughing.

Drew laughed with her lightheartedly, but stopped soon after.

"Oh, I also saw a lot of Jake today. He says he wants to meet me tomorrow after the sun goes down so that we can watch part of the Dance of Skies," May told him.

"What about Masquerain and me?" Drew asked.

"I asked him if you could come, but he said it would be better if we were alone for a little bit and then I hang out with you," May said to him, she understanding and believing every word of it.

"I dont know May, that doesn't sound right to me," Drew told her.

He couldn't help it. Even if she was thirteen by now, he had to do something to open her eyes to the real world. Not everything is as great as it seemed.

"What do you mean?" May asked, "We're just friends."

"I don't know if he knows that," Drew said.

Jake may not be nice to him, but May truly thought he was her friend, and maybe he was. He tried to keep his opinions and the facts separated.

"I don't think you should go, sounds fishy," Drew added.

"Listen, I think I'm old enough to figure things out for myself!" May shouted, now blinding and shutting herself off from any reasoning, "I'll make my own decisions and take my own risks, thank you!"

Drew was shocked. She was really yelling at him, and it wasn't what he had usually gotten back in Hoenn, it was deeper. May wanted her freedom, that's why she made her own decision and came with him instead of following the crowd again. She wanted to be free from rules and regulations that her friends, parents, and even sibling strapped her to. Drew understood, but he
couldn't help but play as an older brother for her. He knew she needed one. She had always wanted to think the best of people, no matter what they had done to her in the past. She needed to have her eyes opened to the real world and the real actions people with selfish needs will do.

...

The next day was the Dance of Skies. People were bustling, bugs were fluttering, and Drew and Masquerain were sulking. There was nothing to do at this point but watch May and Beautifly take their chances with Heirking and Jake. Then in the end, if it was partly happy, Drew and Masquerain would have to say "I told ya so." Masquerain finally ate something just to please his owner. Drew's other pokemon became aware of Masquerain's depression and were told to leave it alone for their best intentions.
Meanwhile, May did her usual five minutes with Jake, which was nothing out of the ordinary. They talked about the weather for crying out loud. She then left to find her way back to Drew in the carnival. She was unaware of his location, and soon gave up and hoped he would find her. She let out all of her Pokemon for lunch.

"Come out everyone!" May shouted and released them.

She placed a bowl of Pokemon food in front of each of them and they dug in. She sat outside the portable Pokemon center on the other side of the carnival. Nurse Joy had given her the bowls for them. Beautifly didn't eat much, which was startling to May. Right from the start, Beautifly had always been a good eater, especially when it was a tiny Wurmple.

"What's wrong, Beautifly? Aren't you gonna eat?" May asked the butterfly.

Beautifly sat on the out door table. Behind her, Skitty and Icechik ate their food. On the ground next to May was Combusken, Munchlax, and Bulbasaur enjoying their meals.

"Be! Be! Beautifly be Beautifly flyfly beau!" Beautifly explained sadly, but May didn't seem to understand.

Beautifly was trying to tell May about the battle Masquerain and Heirking had the other day. Beautifly saw May's confused face and went to Icechik for help. Beautifly told the story to the blue penguin and asked for asistance in making an example.

Icechik opened its big, yellow bill, "Ice!" and agreed to help.

It and Beautifly got off the table and came to the ground. Beautifly and Icechik stood apart from each other as if ready to battle. Skitty, overhearing the conversation, also jumped down from the table. It started drawing in the sandy dirt, and soon too ugly pictures of two bug Pokemon were drawn next to Beautifly and Icechik. A picture of Masquerain was drawn under Beautifly,
and Heirking's picture was drawn under Icechik. May nodded with understanding.

"Beau!" Beautifly cried.

It and Icechik slammed into each other to show a battle. Then Beautifly and Icechik stopped their demonstration and Beautifly pointed to itself. May understood.

"So, Masquerain and Heirking fought, over you?" May asked, trying to get the whole story.

Beautifly nodded sadly.

"Well, who won?" May asked, still shocked that Masquerain would do something like that.

Beautifly pointed to Icechik, indicating that Heirking won.

"It's completely normal," came a small girl's voice from behind May.

May turned to look at Fran. She stood across from May. Foamite jumped up onto the table.

"Normal?" May asked her.

"Yeah, it was Choosing Day yesterday. On Choosing Day the boy bugs fight with each other to see who's stronger," Fran informed her.

May nodded. Still, it was very unlike Masquerain, or Drew, to take such action over that.

"It's ok. How's the blue buggy doing?" Fran asked concerned.

"It looked fine last time I saw it. I didn't even know they had a fight," May said, sadly.

"As long as that Heirking didn't kill it, it will be fine," Fran said mysteriously.

"Fran! Honey! Where are you?" came Fran's mother's voice.

"I'm right here mommy! I'm coming!" Fran yelled back.

Fran picked up Foamite and started running towards a middle aged woman farther into the carnival.

"By, May," Fran called to May as she kept running.

Skitty and Icechik had found their way back to the top of the table and had finished eating. May's other Pokemon lay around the table, some asleep, some staring into space. May looked down at her Beautifly. She opened her arms wide to it and it jumped in.

"Don't worry about it. We won't stay with Jake and Heirking that long when we go," May promised, "Besides, you and Masquerain have a date tonight, wouldn't want to miss it!"

Beautifly looked happily into May's face and hugged her back.

...

Meanwile, Drew spent his day throwing rocks into the lake. He couldn't think of a more worse time he had at a carnival. In fact, he couldn't think of one time he had been to a carnival. He didn't remember going as a kid with his parents, nor did he ever have that kind of time to waste when he had been on the road. Why now did he have the time? He knew that if he were by himself going through Contesta, he would be in Norbrown by now. Was May possibly holding him down? Maybe. But he didn't seem to care.

...

That evening, as the bugs got ready for their Dance of Skies, May met back up with Drew, who hadn't moved from the campsite. He looked at her and she didn't answer it.

"I'll be back in a few minutes," May told him and made her way down the sandy path.

"Mas mas masquer rain mas mas masquerain," Masquerain mumbled to itself, imitating May's statement in its language.

May walked down the path, Beautifly perched upon her head. Jake was waiting at the edge of the lake. He heard her coming and turned to face her.
"What's up, Beautifly?" Jake asked.

Beautifly answered sweetly and May answered, "Good, you?"

"Just...fine," he said with an excited sigh.

Heirking joined them from out of the blue.

"Looks pretty, don't it?" Jake asked May as he inched closer to her.

"Yeah, the sky is all different colors," May complimented.

Bug pokemon swirled in last minute rehearsal across the mirror that was Turning Lake. The sky bled yellows, greens, blues, and purples as tiny stars poked into view. The sun was setting in the west, as it always did, getting ready for another night of sleep until it rose the next morning for a day controlled by those who lived it. Jake moved closer in.

"Heir, Heirking?" Heirking asked Beautifly for a Sky Dance.

"Be, Beauti. Be, be beauti beau be beautifly be fly," Beautifly rejected.

It told Heirking it already had a partner for the dance, but thanked it for the offer. That broke the peacefulness.

"Heir?" Heirking asked who it was.

"Beautifly," Beautifly told it Masquerain.

"Heir! Heir king king ki heir!" Heirking shouted it couldn't believe Beautifly would still want to mate with such a pathetic loser.

"You know what, Jake? I think we should go now. I don't want to keep Drew waiting," May told him.

She was frightened that his Pokemon was flipping out next to Beautifly. It made her feel very insecure. She promised that they wouldn't stay long anyway to Beautifly. Beautifly went to fly down to May, but Heirking caught it with a String Shot.

Jake wrapped his arms around May and said,"Why? Don't you wanna stay a while?"

"Get off me!" May ordered.

Jake didn't listen and covered her mouth. He picked her up and moved her to a place behind some bushes and a closed down stand. He let go of her mouth and pinned her up against the empty stand's outside wall. It was shady and the wood was hard against May's back. She could feel some splinters on the wall as well. Jake ran his face threw her hair and sniffing it like a drug. His body was very close to hers and she could feel him getting excited. May was silent. Her voice had escaped the tragedy, but it wasn't completely lost.

"Use Ice Beam!" came Drew's voice.

A light blue light shot from somewhere and blasted Jake all the way into the lake. The Ice Beam hit and froze Heirking. Beautifly was released from the String Shot. It landed to May who was now on the ground on her knees, speechless. Drew walked over, Masquerain perched on his shoulder. May didn't say anything to him.

"I hate to say this, but I told ya so," Drew started.

He wasn't done though, he had something to say.

May sighed, "I know."

"You gotta listen to me. I know you think everyone and everything is great and nice. But they're not. This is the real world, May. No one hands anyone anything on a silver platter. People take people for granted. They take advantage of little girls, they steal candy from babies...and steal hopes from kids. People are selfish, greedy...*******s. So when I tell you something isn't right, you have to trust me," Drew told her, "I don't understand why you don't trust me. I've never given you a reason not to. This isn't the first time you've done something like this."

"What?" May looked up to him.

"You trusted Harley, remember?" Drew asked her, "And he turned out to hate you, and yet you still gave him that second chance that you've never given me once. Why? Why don't you trust me?"

May looked up to him and saw a lot of pain. He was right. He had never given her a reason not to trust him. When he told her she stunk at coordinating, she knew back then he was right. And now he told her Jake was a bad guy, even though he had been such a cool friend. He went and lured out so that he could've raped her. Drew walked away, hoping May would follow, but she
didnt for some time. She thought about his words that echoed in her ears - "Why dont you trust me?"

...

Later that night, Drew had made his way over to a wooden bench located on one of the Lake's shores, closeby their campsite. After he had found May, Masquerain and Beautifly reunited and went out to the lake. Drew looked out to the lake. It sparkled with the shine of a million or so stars. The carnival had shut all of their lights to make the Dance of Skies as natural as it could be. Drew thought about what he had said to May. He hadn't planned all that, it just came out as he noticed it. A selfish, greedy *******? Reminded him of someone. There was movement to his right and someone sat down next to him. It was May. She was looking very apologetic.

She sighed, "You were right, I'm sorry for not beliveing you. You do seem to know more about the world than I do."

"Started before you, I have a year on you, remember?" Drew informed her.

"Yeah," she inched closer to him and gave him a friendly hug.

He cringed in his seat. It was very unexpected, but relaxing and relieving at the same time. The night would have gone better if May hadn't spoken again.

"You're my best friend," she told him, muffled by his clothing.

Drew sighed, "Yeah."

He looked down in defeat, almost as if Jake had won. He then looked up to Masquerain as it fluttered around Beautifly in their personal Dance of Skies. After all that had happened, he realized he was jealous of his own Pokemon. Masquerain had everything it could ever want, in his eyes. A good trainer, fame, friends, and a love life. Plus everything that comes out of those subjects.

Drew thought to himself, "Stuck in the friend zone...d**n."

Episode 7 - Norbrown City! Return of Medicham!
Rated PG

Norbrown City is one of Contesta's big northern cities. It's known primarily for the contest it holds every few weeks. Large skyscrapers and buildings reach high into the sky as they tower over the little streets and cars below. The sun looks upon itself in the glass skyscrapers all day long until it decides the day is done. Below this high canopy of concrete and steel, life continues down below on the pavement.

......................................

May and Drew arrived in Norbrown, eager to finally enter the contest. The sidewalk ahead of them stretched out far, lined with buildings, stores, and other places that housed working people. The Pokemon Center came into view, its red top glisening in the sun light. Despite the sun's glaring upon the city, it managed to keep cool. There was no breeze at all.

"Good afternoon, Nurse Joy," May greeted the red headed nurse.

"Why, hello! Are you two coordinators?" Nurse Joy asked them.

"Yeah, we are," Drew told her.

"That's good, then you should sign up for the contest," Nurse Joy said and handed them a piece of paper clipped to a clipboard.

Drew took it from her from across the counter and signed. He handed it to May who did the same, and she handed it back to Nurse Joy.

"And that's that!" she explaimed happily, "The contest will start the day after tomorrow at twelve o'clock sharp."

"What?" May whined, "It's like it's never going to come!"

Drew looked down at her as she slumped on a chair to the side. Nurse Joy went back to what she had been doing.

"I can't believe this! That kid beat me again!" a familiar voice yelled into the hall.

May and Drew looked up to find a tall woman with maroon hair come into the Pokemon Center. She wore a yellow belly shirt with blue, baggy pants. They didn't cover her ankles and her shoes were brown. Her hair was up in two long pig tails.

"What's wrong, Grace?" Nurse Joy asked concerned.

The woman walked up to Nurse Joy and leaned against the counter.

"That kid is just too good!" she said, "How am I ever going to beat this kid in the PokeBlock making contest if I can't even beat him in practice? What's more, he's got a team coming in, and I have nothing! Everyone is so afraid to lose, no one wants to be on my team!"

"That's really too bad," Nurse Joy told her.

"I know. But I can't just give up. I'm so not letting him get away with first place without a fight first," Grace added.

May got up and walked over to Grace. Drew stayed behind, remembering what a beating he had gotten way back when in Hoenn from her. He didn't like her too much.

"Grace?" May asked inspecting the woman from behind.

"Huh? May? Is that you?" Grace asked, stunned to see her, "Oh! I haven't seen you in such a long time!"

Grace gave May a big hug and May took it best she could. She hoped that Grace would stop before she couldn't breath anymore.

"How have you been?" May asked in a friendly tone when Grace let go of her.

"Good for the most part," Grace answered, "Lately I've been bummed out because this kid keeps of kicking my butt in PokeBlock making."

"I didn't know PokeBlock making was a sport," May told her.

"Oh it isn't much in Hoenn, Wardy, or any other region, just Contesta. That's what I love about this place!" Grace said enthusiastically.

Grace thought for a while and then exclaimed, "Hey, May, would you like to be on my team for tomorrow?"

May couldn't resist but join her long lost friend.

"Ok," May agreed happily.

"Oh wait, that kid is having two friends coming. We need another person," Grace told her, becoming saddened again.

"Well," May started, "How about Drew?"

May pointed to Drew who was relaxing on one of the chairs. He looked at her evilly.

"There you go, volenteering me for stuff," Drew said annoyed.

"Oh stop it!" May shouted into his face when she walked over to him, "We haven't seen Grace in a long time, be a pal and let's help her!"

"What made you think I wanted to?" Drew asked her, calmly.

"Because I said so!" May told him.

"Oh yeah, there's a good reason," Drew snapped back.

"Hey, I know you," Grace started as she walked over to the little fight, "You're the kid I beat in the Fallarbor Contest. I guess you must be scared I'm gonna beat you again. Ha!"

Grace started laughing uncontrollably.

"Yeah, well that's not going to happen in this Contest. I have more experience and Pokemon now," Drew told her, "I'll beat you this time. You just got lucky last time."

Grace kept laughing, "Yeah, right! Well, for your information, I have a new Pokemon too."

"Really? You do? Can we see, Grace?" May asked as she clasped her hands in front of her.

"Sure just come outside and I'll show you," Grace told her and then went back to Drew, "So, are you joining us?"

"Sure, why not?" Drew told her, "I'd love to get an edge on my opponent."

...

Grace led them outside. The sun was shining down, but its warmth was no where to be found. It was chilly. Behind the Pokemon center was a grassy backyard. A few coordinators were practicing with their Pokemon, but there definatly weren't enough of them to fill the contest hall. Grace mentioned that most of them will be entering the PokeBlock making tournament the next day, so they weren't practicing with their Pokemon. Grace stopped in the middle of the yellow green field. She first let out Medicham for a nice reunion.

"Medi!" the maroon purple pokemon cried.

"You guys remember Medicham, especially you, Drew," Grace sneered to him.

Drew glared at her and she giggled evilly. He knew as long as she stuck around, he'd have the memory of her wiping the floor with him in Fallarbor keep coming back clearer and more precise than it had been. He had managed to only remember it when he saw a Medicham or some psychic Pokemon, but now Grace was pushing it.

"I also have two others," Grace said and released one.

Out of the Pokeball came a Kadabra.

"I got that when I visited Kanto," Grace said, "Even though they were still building the contest halls. I believe they will have halls in Fusia and Celadon, but there won't be a Grand Festival there."

"I see you've been collecting Psychic type Pokemon," May pointed out.

"Yeah, after Medicham won a couple contests in Hoenn, I realized I really loved the way Psychic Pokemon's attacks looked," Grace told May, and then added, "That reminds me. I have another Pokemon I recently caught here in the Contesta region."

"Oh, won't you please show us, Grace?" May asked, excited to see another Contesta Pokemon.

Ever since she saw Team Gem's Pokemon and the starters back in Auburn Town, May became fasinated by them. They really were Pokemon for contests. Each one had an inner or outter beauty and cuteness that sometimes couldn't be found in other regions' natives.

"Speak for yourself, May," Drew said, uninterested in Grace's lineup anymore.

"Oh stop it! Aren't you just a little bit curious?" May asked.

"Well, it seems your curiosity to the world around you gets you in a lot of trouble sometimes. So I'll learn from your mistakes and not take my chances like you blindly do," Drew said smoothly, as though he had planning it.

"I can't believe you!" May started whining.

"Oh boy! I see what's going on!" Grace said, unable to keep her opinions to herself, "You guys are the cutest couple!"

Drew glared at her and started counting on his fingers.

"We're just friends, Grace," May assured her.

"Yeah right!" Grace added but then changed the subject and threw her Pokeball to the floor.

While this conversation was going on, Drew had realized that Grace was the fifth person to realize, imply, or say that they were a "cute couple" or something to that extent. Drew wished they'd all shut up, but was glad May was as dense as she was, always taking their status the way she thought it so seriously that she refused to take in what people said about them into consent.

"This is Dorjester(door - JESS - ter)," Grace informed, snapping Drew out of it.

(I suggest you all get to the sprite page NOW-_- The Pokemon looked humanly, except for its mint green skin color. It had a perfectly round head on top of an oval body. It stood uright, like a person, on its thin, long legs. It's thin, long arms hung loosly from beneath its head. Covering its shoulders
and thin hips were purple frills that went all the way around its neck and the other all around its waist. Dangling from its thin arms were unproportional hands, that were very large and deep red. Its feet were that of a clown, also like its hands, big and deep red. What hung around its wrists and ankles were two rings, one larger in diameter that the other. On top of its head was what
looked like a sleeping cap, purple and it had the same rings that were on its wrists and ankles at the tip, floating in mid air from the Pokemon's psychic abilities. Its eyes were closed and its mouth was a little "o" that grew and shunk with the Pokemon's breathing in its sleep. May flipped out her Pokedex excitedly.

"Dorjester, the Lazy Jester Pokemon. This Psychic type Pokemon spends most of its time in a deep sleep, sometimes acting out what it sees in its dreams. It only moves around a lot when it is called for battle or is disturbed in its sleep."

"What a cool Pokemon," May complimented.

May hoped that sometime soon she'd get a Contesta Pokemon, one as cool, beautiful, cute, smart, and tough as the Pokemon she had witnessed so far. Furnisur with it's coolness, Heirking with its beauty, Foamite with its cuteness, Graibow with its smartness, and Liequartz with its toughness...Contesta Pokemon were very unique.

"Yeah, thanks," Grace said flattered, "What Pokemon have you guys caught since last I've seen you, well since the Grand Festival in Hoenn. I read and saw you had a Flygon and Masquerain," she looked to Drew and then looked to May, "And you a Bulbasaur and a Skitty."

"Not just them, I also got Munchlax from the Hoenn region," May told her.

"Wow!" Grace said loudly.

"Then I got an Icechik from the Wardy region," May told her and Grace got more excited.

"So? What about you?" Grace asked Drew.

He looked to her and said, "I caught a Flareitten during the Wardy region and then a Sawbura here in Contesta."

"So, you two still don't have Contesta Pokemon? That's so funny!" Grace said loudly and laughed uncontrollably.

Drew glared and May smiled nervously as she backed away from Grace, frightened she might get a smack in the head like she did when she first met Grace in Fallarbor.

"Hehehe, shut up," Drew mumbled under his breath.

...

After more conversation between May and Grace, Grace dragged them both to where the PokeBlock tournament would be held. It was an old, broken down Contest Hall, but it had been renavated for other uses. Grace explained that it was originally Norbrown's Contest Hall but something happened and they closed it down and built another one. A fire she suggested. The building inside had a wide open space filled with coordinators and PokeBlock specialists crowded around Berry Blenders. The floor was a grayish blue tileing that shone in the lights that hung over head. In the back of the large room was what looked like a stage. To their left was a door that went into a back room.

"Do they give us a Berry Blender, or what?" Drew asked Grace.

"I rented one myself, right next to that d**n PokeBlock specialist's Berry Blender," Grace said, putting her fists up in fury and talking about the kid she was angery with at the Pokemon Center.

"Huh? A Pokeblock specialist?" May asked.

"Yeah, some of these kids arn't coordinators, they just specialize in making the best Pokeblocks. Then they sell them to coordinators who don't have the time or want grade 'A' Pokeblocks," Grace answered as they walked through the crowd.

"But I thought you said that was bad," May asked, remembering what Grace had told her about Team Rocket's phoney Pokeblocks.

"It is, when you buy it off the street," Grace went to continue, "But these guys are going to become millionaires someday. They not only tell you what berries they used, but also how they made them, and even make them on the spot for you if you're still iffy."

"Wow!" May exclaimed.

Drew knew these kinds of people, some of his family had been PokeBlock specialists, not coordinators. He was the first to use his Pokemon in a coordinating fashion and not for cooking techniques. My would Grace and May be surprised when they saw his secret skill. PokeBlock specialists liked to be called Blockers. They searched far and wide for all kinds of berries, even taking in Apircorns from the Johto regions as a special bonus. They used their Pokemon's special abilities to help make the PokeBlocks by hand. Skilled Blockers, like those in his family, refused to use Berry Blenders, saying it took away from the homemade taste that raised conditions higher than a Berry Blended PokeBlock. Instead, though, he remembered watching his uncle use a Houndoom's Crunch to chop up the berries.
Grace lead them to the back room where there were lockers for everyone particapating in the tournaments. Grace came to one and started to dial her combination into the locker. It opened and they could see many berries inside that Grace must have collected.

"It's a good thing you guys don't have any berries with you," Grace said, "Because in the taournament, they give you berries to work with, so you can't use your own. We'll practice with mine though."

"We do this with only berries?" Drew asked, taking this as the judges took something away from Blocking.

"Well, what else would we make them with?" May asked, unaware of the sport in PokeBlock making.

"Ah..." Grace said, starting to figure Drew out, "You must've known some Blockers in your day to ask a question like that. Yeah, I'm sure they give us the ability to bring things in for it."

"Oh good," Drew said mysteriously.

"I guess me and May are very lucky to have you on our team then. You could probably beat that Blocker at his own game," Grace complimented.

Drew smirked and May took this as a good chance.

"Don't compliment him too much, Grace, he won't be able to fit his head out the door," May said cutely.

Drew dropped his head and sweatdropped. Grace laughed.

"I'm not going to say it, but you know what I mean," Grace said and walked back out the doors to the crowded room.

Drew's sweatdrop slipped down further and May laughed nervously, but didn't care, maybe not even notice.

...

May and Drew followed Grace out the doors to the main hall. As they passed people, they found that PokeBlock making was quite the competition. Everyone was using the Berry Blender, giving Drew ideas on what he was going to do. People were also using their Fire Pokemon's flamethrower to burn or crisp the PokeBlocks for extra kick. All too well known by Drew. Others were using strange combinations of berries. Others added in there own common spices and other trinkets that made Drew feel like he was at his uncle's house again. Not home though, this, never at home... Grace came to an empty Berry Blender and set the berries down. There were two Bluk berries, one Pecha, three Pomeg, four Pamtre, three Grepa, and one Lum berry in ther bundle.

"Ok, now the trick to making PokeBlocks is you dump some berries into a Berry Blender and push this button when the pointer comes to you," Grace said putting her hand to the red button in front of her on the Berry Blender, "The faster the spinner goes, the better the PokeBlock inside."

That was only the basics, there were so many other possibilities that could be done if they didn't use the Berry Blender, but Drew didn't know the requirements, so he kept his mouth shut. Some other kid, though, took the words right out of his mouth. Well, sort of.

"Please! There's more to it than that!" a young, English accented voice said from behind Grace.

Grace released a big red "x" on her head and became enraged. May and Drew wondered who the kid was. He was short and wore a blue school uniform. Its buttons were buttoned all the way to his neck and his pants here the same boring blue. His shoes were shined, and black. His hair was blonde, split by a part in the middle and hung down over his ears. He wore thin framed glasses, and his eyes were big and blue. Fangirls stood behind him, looking as if they were forcing themselves to keep in a cheer for him.

"I see Grace found some friends to play with as she tries to beat me in the PokeBlock making tournament, unless she's paying you," he said snottly to May and Drew.

"Listen, Peter! I'm not in the mood right now! I'm teaching basics! Go away!" Grace yelled.

Her voice was already loud, but now that she elevated it to "angry", her voice boomed throughout the hall.

"Hm? Oh, I think I know you!" Peter said as he directed his attention away from Grace and over to May, "You're that famous coordinator from the Wardy region, yes?"

"Um, I won contests there and won their half ribbon, but I'm from Petalberg in Hoenn," May said nervously.

"You are quite the coordinator," Peter said taking her hand and kissing it.

Drew didn't like this, but he knew he knew Peter from somewhere and decided that's as far as it would go. It was in Peter's English blood and nature to do such a thing anyway.

"Grace, maybe you could take a few lessons from your stunning friend, or employee," Peter egged.

Grace became mad again. She let it go right over her head though. Peter walked away and his little cheerleaders followed.

"Why does he only bother you, Grace?" May asked, recovering from the awkward position.

"I don't know, he must have figured out that I hate how he always won the practice rounds," Grace answered unsurely.

Drew stood there in deep thought, trying to figure out where he had seen a stuck up, English kid before in his past journeys. That knowledge could help them in the competition, especially against him. Grace showed and taught May how to use the Berry Blender and practiced with them. They had a lot of fun and Peter didn't come around anymore.

...

Later that night, Grace stood outside with May and Drew. She pleaded with Drew to stay in the Pokemon Center and he soon gave in. He just couldn't stand her whining, especially at such a high octive. She told him it would be better for them to meet up, because Nurse Joy doesn't give wake up calls. She comes to the rooms and doesn't leave until you're out. That way, May and Drew wouldn't sleep in and miss the competition. Drew told her that would be the reason to stay in a hotel. You don't have a serigate mother coming in to beat hell out of you until you're up and out at the crack of dawn. Grace laughed uncontrollably and ignored him. Grace and May also had a practice battle, in which ended in Grace's victory, her using Kadabra, May using Skitty. It got late fast and soon the sky was dark. May decided to head into the Pokemon Center to rest Skitty and get some sleep herself. Drew stayed outside, Flareitten on his lap enjoying a stroking as he sat on a bench outside. Grace was praising her Kadabra on a job well done. She then went over to Drew. She smirked before she even said her line.

"So...how long have you two been going out?" Grace asked.

She was having a lot of fun teasing him. He was like a little brother that you just want to beat the crap out of and then tease them about a fake love life. Drew just glared at her. He knew her intentions.

"We're not going out. Leave it alone," Drew ordered.

Grace wanted the whole story, though.

"Yeah, right," Grace said, getting hyper again, "How come guys are such bad liars?"

"I'm not lieing!" Drew shouted.

"What are you going to do about it?" Grace was serious now.

She ignored his last statment, seeing it as if she took it seriously he wouldn't realize it and talk to her about it. She just hoped he was stupid enough for that.

"I don't know," he took the bait.

"Well," Grace started, "You better figure it out before someone else does."

Drew took this in as she walked away. So far, May had been hit on by a drunk, a rapist, and an annoying English kid. Quite the competition. Who knows who else is out there who will take her seriously like he was and actually try to get to know her? It was tough. He didn't want to take it fast, that's annoying. Taking it slow would make too much room for someone else. Then he snapped back to reality and wondered why Grace would care. He shook her advice away and looked up to the black sky. Stars twinkled as they did every night. He was gratful for them, though. He looked at them for a long time until he could see the pictures again. He found May's "Cheap
Fish", a skull, and a snowflake. It was funny how he only saw specific pictures at specific times, and they didn't come annualy. May's fish was located near the skull, the snowflake was above them. He didn't take the fact that the skull had appeared lightly. It meant that someone was in danger, like how he had seen it at Turning Lake next to May's fish and she had been in trouble. He hadn't noticed the snowflake then though. He realized it meant a certain area.

"Fla?" Flareitten asked in his lap.

The fire cat saw its trainer was in deep thought and knew better than to leave him in that state.

"Let's go in, Flareitten," Drew said.

He got up when Flareitten jumped to the ground. He walked back to the Pokemon Center, Flareitten at his feet.

...

May got up early. She and Drew shared a Pokemon Center room. She sat on the bottom bunk of her bunkbed and looked across the room at Drew in the bottom bunk of the other bunkbed. The window's blinds had been left open last night. Now the gentle rays of the morning sun crept in through the transparent window and touched everything it could. It outlined the bed's poles and creases. It lay upon Drew who was sleeping with the covers almost off. His purple jacket hung on a hook above his head. Since he hadn't bothered to return it, Flareitten lay curled up under him on the floor. It's fly like wings were folded on its back. May watched him dream. Her evil side came out and she got a great idea. She crept over to her backpack. She fished around inside for a while and emerged with Skitty's calming stick. She then tiptoed over to Drew's side. He was cute asleep, too bad someone had to wake him.

"Oh my god, Drew! An Ekans got in and is crawling in your bed!" May wailed as she touched Drew with the stick.

He jumped in fright, flipped over and stared at her angrily. He noticed she had the stick. He got up and grabbed her head.

"Why, May? Why so early in the morning!" Drew shouted playfully as he held his arm around her neck.

She broke free and ran to the door. Drew followed quickly. She was out in the hallway now. He grabbed her arm, spun her around and clasped her to the wall vigorously. The playing stopped when they could feel Grace staring at them.

"Let me guess," she started, laughing on the inside, "It's not what it looks like."

Grace had a hand on her hip and looked down, knowing whatever lie they had wasn't going to cut it.

"She, she woke me up," Drew studdered as he backed away from May.

May had her hands to her mouth, trying to hold back laughter.

"What a great response," Grace said sarcatically, "You're supposed to keep that inside the bedroom."

"What?" May cried.

Drew just gave her a look and went back inside the room. He locked the door. May looked back at the now closed door. She ran up to it and started pounding on the gray door.

"Drew! Drew open this door right now! I need my stuff!" May called, but there was no answer.

Drew snickered to himself inside, "The joke's on you now."

He took his jacket off the hook and slipped it on gracefully, ignoring the pounding and protesting at the door.

"C'mon, May," Grace said, "Let's walk around for a bit."

May followed Grace and left the beaten door to Drew. He was still sitting on the bed when they left. He was staring at the floorboards, breathing heavily after the morning's events. He thought about the competition coming up. It's been quite a while since he entered one of these PokeBlock contests. He looked over his memory of Peter the other day. Something didn't add up. He knew the kid from somewhere, but where? He got up, still thinking, and unlocked the door. He then made his way back to his bed. Then it hit him.

"That's where!" Drew shouted to himself.

Flareitten looked at its trainer in confusion, but decided it nothing and went back to its nap. Drew rushed over to his bag and looked around in it. He came out with a piece of notepad paper and a black pen. He started writing things down on it, excited.

"One second, Grace, I need to get something," Drew heard May's voice from out in the hall.

He continued to write as she came in, grabbed her bag, gave him an angry stare, and leave. May shut the door behind her and walked to Grace. They walked a little down the hall when the door slammed open. Drew came rushing out with the piece of paper in his hand.

"Well, looks like the evil troll decided to come out afterall," Grace said.

"Yeah, yeah," Drew said quickly, "Look, I need you guys to get these things and meet me with them at the PokeBlock contest."

"Huh?" Grace asked confused as Drew handed her the slip of white paper.

"No time, just do it," Drew said quickly.

"Where will you be?" May asked.

"I need to go get something myself, just go," Drew told her and rushed out of the center.

Grace and May stared at each other. Grace looked up and down the list.

"A grocery list?" Grace asked, but decided that Drew must know what he's doing.

May followed her out to the market.

...

It was twenty minutes to twelve and Grace and May stood at their Berry Blender, anxious and worried about Drew's location. It wasn't that Grace cared of Drew's well being to the extent May had, she just didn't want her best team mate to miss the tournament. Peter had his two buddies with him. He looked over to Grace and May as his friends planned without him in the background. He walked over to them.

"I see you have a lot of supplies, but, also it looks like a team mate of yours has bailed on you. How sad," Peter told them.

May stayed calm, but Grace answered him, "He'll be here, you just watch."

"I don't think so. Everyone knows me to be the PokBlock Master. He probably Torchiced out," Peter egged her on, but she managed to keep a level head.

"You'll be the one crying like a Marill when I'm done with you," came Drew's voice from behind Peter.

His napsack dangled from is shoulder and he looked determined. Grace sighed with relief.

"Ha! You seem to not know who you're dealing with - the PokeBlock Master coming to mind?" Peter asked just as determined.

"Listen, I know how to beat you, so I'd keep my mouth shut if I were you. Don't be making any promises to your possy over there,"

Drew pointed his thumb to his cheerleaders and two friends at his Berry Blender. The cheerleaders were so hyped up and ditzy it looked like their heads would screw off and float away at any moment. His friends stood still as statues. Peter smirked, and walked to them. Drew put his bag at the edge of the Berry Blender on the floor. He then inspected the girls' job on getting everything he requested. It was all there. The clock read five to twelve and Blockers were still preparing their stuff at their Berry Blenders.

"So, what did you have to get?" May asked Drew.

"Just some stuff. I'll tell you later," Drew answered her.

The judges started to come out. They filed out of the back room, ready to begin the tournament. There were five of them. The first was tall and had pitch black hair. He had bright green eyes that shone through his hair that fell over his face. His face was soft, but stern. He looked old, in his late forties or so. He wore a business man's attire tat was blue. A Houndoom walked at his feet. The next person behind him was a gorgeous woman. She was young and small framed. She had long, brown hair that was clasped in a black pin behind her head. Her face was young and lively. Her hazel eyes were bright and jolly. She wore a gray blouse over a long black skirt. She had high heels on that were black. An Absol followed her from her left. The next one was also a woman. She was also young and pretty. She looked spunky and full of life. Her hair was blonde and short. She had on a dark pink blouse with a knee length, maroon skirt. She wore a diamond necklace around her neck. She held an Azurill in her hands. The man behind her was a little taller than her. He wore a striped shirt - white and blue - and had on straight leg blue jeans. He had on big glasses. His hair was a little long and messy on top his head. A Porygon followed close behind him. The last man to come out was a very muscular, but older man. He wore a short sleeve shirt that was dark green and wore army pants. He had a scruffy beard and scruffy hair on his head of the brown color. He looked mean. A Machoke followed him out and was the last to come from the back room. All the coordinators watched as they made their way to the top of the stage. The two women and two last men took seats as the first older man went to a microphone at the foot of the stage.

"Welcome all Coordinators and Blockers to Norbrown's ninty-fifth annual PokeBlock making contest," the man said, "Let me introduce myself for the new comers. I am Jack Verona. Many of you know me as a famous Blocker."

Everyone clapped to him. Most of the Blockers looked up to him as a legend.

"Now, turn your attention to these four who will also be judging your PokeBlock making skills," Jack said, "The lovely lady with the Absol is Serenity Fair. Sitting next to her is the equal as lovely Pany Newton. Over to my right, you have Dexter Tailor, and sitting next to him is Red Dangwit. We will all be judging on your abilities to make excellent PokeBlocks. We will hand you your berries and with your skills and supplies, you will be making PokeBlocks for our five Pokemon to test out. Then they will judge your PokeBlock on a scale of one to five, five being the highest. The team with the highest score wins!"

Evereyone clapped and cheered, eager to start the tournament. Drew looked at the Blockers who sat on top of the stage. He knew them all well, they were famous afterall. Serenity Fair was a famous Blocker from the Orre region in Agate Village. She became famous when she made the best PokeBlock the Orchida officials had ever seen out of common berries like Bluk and Cheri. Pany
Newton had come from Slateport city. She had been a newbie at PokeBlock making, but against all odds, she made the best PokeBlock for Pokemon entering the cute contest the Johto and Hoenn regions ever saw. Dexter Tailor was one from Fallarbor Town, and using his computer genius, made PokeBlock using HTML code so that he could give it his Porygon. Then there was Red Dangwit, who got into the World Records books for making a PokeBlock so sour, it almost challenged the sourness of sour consentrate. Then there was good old Jack Verona. He was the most famous of them all. He had won every PokeBlock tournament in Contesta, Hoenn, and Orre, and then went on to own a huge PokeBlock and Pokemon food industry called PokeBits. Jack wasn't just a really famous guy to Drew, though, he was his uncle.

"Start the first round!" Jack shouted into the microphone, "In this round, you will use only common berries with a Berry Blender to start things off. No other ingredients are allowed for this round."

As he said the rules, assistants went around giving all the teams Cheri, Bluk, Chesto, and Rawst berries. Grace, May, and Drew soon got their four berries. Drew knew pretty much what to do with them.

"And...begin! With two minutes on the clock!" Jack said over the microphone.

Everyone started fiddling with the berries. Drew took matters into his own hands and dropped the berries in the berry blender - Bluk, then Chesto, then Rawst, and then finally Cheri. He closed the cap. Grace and May looked at each other, but went with it. The cap started to spin its arrow. Drew, May and Grace pressed their buttons, trying to get the best scores. In the end, five purple pokeblocks with a red swirl popped out of the machine. They had a little time, so they looked at their scores.

"Wow, May, you're the best at this, you didn't miss one!" Grace exclaimed to her.

Drew was inspecting the PokeBlocks and looked satisfied.

"Raise the red and blue flags," he told Grace.

"You got it," Grace said and obediently raised a blue flag and then a red flag.

"Time!" Jack said over the micorphone and went off stage to the ground.

He looked around and went to every Berry Blender that had a Red flag raised. Those were the teams that had PokeBlocks that Pokemon entering a Cool Contest that liked Spicey tastes would be most effective. Serenity and her Absol went to teams with blue flags for Beauty, Pany went to ones with pink flags for Cute, Dexter to green flags for Smart, and Red to yellow flags for Tough. After leaving a table of girls, Jack made his way to Grace's team.

"Team number twenty five," Jack told them, "I see you're ready to have a spicey PokeBlock tested by my Houndoom?"

"Yes, we're ready," May told him happily.

Jack picked up one of the PokeBlocks and examined it.

"A nice touch I haven't yet seen," he commented, liking the swirls in it, "Reminds me of a PokeBlock I like to make out of these certain berries..."

He finished his commenting and fed the PokeBlock to Houndoom. He then lay a blanket decorated with five circles, each noteing a number from 1 to 5. Houndoom chewed the PokeBlock, inspecting every taste it could give. After swallowing, Houndoom lay its black paw on the circle marked "4".

"I nice score for the first round," Jack said, noteing Houndoom's score on a clipboard,"I'll tell Serenity you're waiting for her."

He nodded and went to Peter's group next to them.

"Wow! I didn't think we'd get a high score like that," Grace said to May and Drew, "The highest I got in the practice rounds was a two."

"It's ok Grace," May said, "If it were me, the Pokemon would spit them out."

"Hello, team twenty five?" Serenity asked, breaking the conversation.

"Yes, that's us," Grace said proudly.

Serenity picked up the PokeBlock and examined it. She too commented postively on the double colors, just as Jack had. She then fed the purple and red PokeBlock to her Ansol. Absol loved it right off the bat and also gave it an even "4". Serenity noted it on her clipboard and wished them luck in the next rounds.

...

The competition was fierce. Round after round did the Blockers and Coordinators endure tough critism, praise, and scoring. Each of the rounds was the same - use common berries to make the best PokeBlock with a Berry Blender. Then after the first round, the Blockers and Coordinators were allowed to choose which berries they wanted from a list. This is where the teamwork of May, Grace, and Drew came into effect. May kept their Berry Blending at a high speed, while Drew picked what order to put the berries, and
Grace chose which berries to use. Grace and Drew tried their best to make the best PokeBlocks from each condition. When round five was completed, the judges took their places on the stage.

"It is now time to let some of our teams go," Jack told the audience.

"What does that mean?" May asked and Grace was equally confused.

"It means they're going to disqualify some teams," Drew whispered back to them, "They're lowering the competition until they get only one winning team left."

"Team number twenty, you're out," Jack announced.

"What are they doing this by?" Grace asked, a little nervous that it was random.

"The five teams that have the lowest scores are going home," Drew assured her, but Grace was still nervous.

She never thought highly of herself in a PokeBlock contest, even though people told her she was great.

"Team numbers sixteen, seventeen, eight," Jack announced, "and...two, you're all out. But, thank you so much for participating. With your leave, please take these five boxes each of our PokeBlock."

"Well, that was nice," May commented quietly.

Grace and Drew nodded. Drew didn't expect less of old uncle Jack, he was a born giver, just like his sister, Drew's mother. Jack went off stage and Serenity stepped up to the microphone.

"It's time for Round two!" she said, "Is everyone ready?"

Coordinator and Blocker came together in a large cheer. Drew stayed quiet, but May and Grace were caught up in it. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Peter sitting back as his friends went wild. Peter glared at him competitvely and Drew returned it.

"This round, we will be testing you on your skills with the spices you have brought in and how well they do against berries of all different tastes," Serenity informed them, "Any spice is allowed - salt, pepper, peprica, cinnomon, but no sugar."

With that, she signaled for the assistants to pass around the berries for round six. An assistant made it over to Grace, May, and Drew and handed them five Persim berries and three Lums. Again, the first round was random. They were small berries, and Drew knew neither of them was of the Spicey taste. The fact that this was all about spice, Drew knew, would mean everyone would think that they'd only be able to get points from Jack, and maybe Serenity and Red. He knew this trick and decided that the first couple of rounds, he would make it a priority to get Pany and Dexter over. He knew that Porygon and Azurill were all for bitter or sweet tastes, but they had
been trained to look for the right amount of spice.

"Five minutes! Begin!" Serenity called from the stage.

The Blockers started.

"So? What do you think?" Grace asked Drew.

"I'm thinking," Drew told her, trying to remember what Jack had done with a set like this.

He then picked up the Persim berries and dropped them into the blender. He picked up one Lum and put it right on top. He put the cap on and looked to May. She started the Blender and they soon became engaged in a PokeBlock game. When the game was over, Drew took the PokeBlocks quickly before they dried completely and sprinkled cinnomon all over them.

"Pink flag please," Drew said and Grace raised the flag.

"Time!" Serenity said over the microphone.

She then made her way down the stage stairs to the ground and went to the tables marked with a blue flag. Pany spotted May, Drew, and Grace's pink flag and scurried over, Azurill in her hands.

"This is the second time I'm seeing you guys, what have you for us this time?" Pany said playfully.

She inspected the PokeBlocks on the Blender. She put Azurill down on the Berry Blender and picked one up. The Pokeblock was pink, except for green and red dots all over it.

"I love the look of the PokeBlocks this team comes up with," she said kindly, "It's great for business and marketing, another aspect of Blocking."

"Thank you so much," Grace answered.

Pany then gave Azurill the PokeBlock. As her little blue mouse ate the PokeBlock, she set out the score blanket. Azurill enjoyed the treat so much, it hopped off the Berry Blender and landed in the "5" circle. May and Grace looked surprised and happy, but Drew thought no less. Pany and her Azurill were the easiest scorers of the five. He never once heard them give anyone less than a three. She wished them luck with the following rounds, and looked around to find not another table to have a pink flag. Grace took
down the flag and looked to Drew.

"I'm really glad I found you two," Grace told them, "I would've been out by now."

"Really?" Drew asked.

"That's so sweet, Grace," May said.

"Yeah, I know people keep telling me I make great PokeBlock, but it's nothing like the six you just came up with right now, Drew," Grace told him, "And I really stink at the Berry Blender game. Man, six year olds kick my butt in them all the time."

May laughed at her story, and Grace laughed with her. Drew snickered, and for that one moment, the competition was gone, and it was actually fun.

...

The following rounds continued, and Drew had Dexter come over twice to give him a three and four on Pokeblocks he figured were bitter tasting. He expected nothing more of him, though. Besides Red, Dexter was the hardest scorer. Grace made a really sour PokeBlock which got her a four from Red, which surprised her and Drew tremendously. May took her shot in the last round to making an ultra spicey PokeBlock for Jack and Houndoom, which got the team their only five in the round. Grace and Drew couldn't help but congratulate her. When the next set of five teams to go home came, Grace and May weren't scared of the outcome. They knew with the high scores they got, they wouldn't be going anywhere just yet. They were right.

"Teams six, twenty eight, fifteen, eleven, and nine, you'll be going home this round," Serenity said over the microphone,"Thanks so much for coming. Do enjoy the participation prize!"

When the teams disqualified left, Serenity took her seat next to Pany, who got up and went to the micorphone.

"Our next round will consist on using rare berries, ones most of you haven't been able to use yet in your journies. In this round, you'll be able to use any and all supplies you have brought with you." Pany spoke loud and cutely.

Everyone cheered for the round to begin, and Pany lifted her arm in signal for the assistants to pass out berries for the first, random round. They gave out Spelon, Liechi, and Watmel berries, all different amounts to each group. May, Drew, and Grace got five Watmel, two Spelon, and four Liechi. Drew went to reach for the berries, but Grace stopped him.

"Can I do this one?" Grace asked.

Drew backed away and said, "Sure."

Grace put in all of the Watmel berries. She then dumped some sugar in, followed by a teasthingy of salt, and three tablesthingys of cinnomon.

"This is my signature PokeBlock," she added and closed the top.

May started the Berry Blender and they were in a blending game again. Half way through, Grace stopped the blender and allowed it to make the PokeBlocks with the badder inside. She then took the five, pink and green PokeBlocks from the machine and put Persim berry juice on them. It hardened on top and she was done.

"Wow, what a neat idea!" May told her.

Grace smiled proudly at her concoction.

"I'd like a pink and green flag please," Grace told Drew.

He smirked and drew the flags. Pany announced round six to be over and went around with the other judges to inspect the PokeBlock. She came over to their Berry Blender, excited to see what else they had in store for her and her Azurill. Azurill enjoyed the PokeBlock so much it gave a "5" immediatley. Azurill turned to Pany and begged her to try some.

"It's ok, go ahead," Grace told her.

Pany thanked her and picked one of them up and slipped in into her mouth. Her face became delighted.

"Wow, this is, like, the best PokeBlock I've ever tasted as far as any and all competitions go," Pany said, "You must must must give me the recipe! This must be your signature PokeBlock!"

"It is, and I'd be happy to give you the recipe," Grace said.

Pany got out a piece of paper and Grace told her the recipe. As they spoke, Dexter came up behind her.

"Now, shouldn't you be judging instead of swapping recipes?" he said as he poked her.

"Oh, would you go away? I'm getting the best of the best here. Better than anything you could do!" Pany said in response.

May giggled and went close to Drew.

She poked him on the shoulder and said, "Sounds familiar."

He crossed his arms and rolled his eyes as his face gave a little color. May giggled again. Dexter passed Pany and Grace and inspected the PokeBlock. He then, without saying a word, gave it to Porygon. Porygon tried it out, being critical about it, and gave it an honest four.

"Very nice," Dexter said, writing the score down.

"Wasn't it the best?" Pany cried to him, but Dexter just snickered and shook his head.

"This isn't a personal "let's get together". It's a serious matter and you and your Azurill should think about the score PokeBlocks really deserve instead of breaking little Blocker's hearts," he said to her quietly and walked away to another team that called for him.

Pany fumed, "I really hate that guy!"

May poked Drew a few more times, and he looked away, still showing color.

Grace giggled and said, "Ah, it only means you're pretty. Believe me, I think I'd rather that than a guy who'd go berserk over me."

Grace looked to May and they both remembered Brock at that instant.

...

The competition continued. May asked for a few more Spelon and two Lansat berries for her next recipe. Drew and Grace stepped back as she made yet another spicey PokeBlock.

"Sorry, guys, but I love making spicey stuff, this one's my Salty...salt...thing!" May told them and went back to adding salt to the berries.

"Just don't overdo it. We don't know how many more rounds we have," Grace told her.

Drew watched her add certain amounts of things, add berries, and stop the game when she thought nesessary. He felt proud of her somehow. When she was done, she had asked for a red flag and a blue flag. Jack came over with Houndoom and it loved the saltyness. It gave her a "5", and Grace and Drew asked her how she did it.

"I just do what I know best," May told them.

"You mean the easiest," Drew commented.

"Well, if I didn't, we wouldn't have all those fives, would we?" May countered him.

It seemed as though she had grown up a little since the journey through Contesta started. He knew that she wanted to travel with him for the sole purpose that she needed a companion. Now, he thought that in due time, it would be her choice to stay with him, and maybe that's what Grace was saying last night. Serenity came over next, interupting Drew's thoughts. Absol tried the PokeBlock and gave it a "3". Absol obviously didn't like salt too much. Serenity left.

May looked down a little and said, "I thought that maybe it would work."

Drew looked at her. He didn't want this one low score to get to her.

"Don't worry about it," he said, "It's quite hard to get the dry taste."

"Yeah, May, it's also really hard to get the appeal of a Pokemon who enters specialized beauty contests," Grace said.

May laughed and soon felt better.
Later in the next rounds, Drew took his chances and used the leftover Lansat and ordered some Enigma berries to try and get an all around taste. He asked for all the judges. Houndoom gave him a four, Absol gave him a three, Azurill gave him a four, Porygon gave him a four, and Machoke gave a three. Grace said those were good scores, but Drew told her he wouldn't take a chance like that again. He admitted he had never witnessed or tried a combonation like that, and had little idea as to what he was doing. May and Grace laughed at him, and he through a leftover Liechi at them. Grace made another sour PokeBlock that Machoke and Red gave her a four on. Drew and May made a spicey and sweet PokeBlock together, taking another risk. Jack and Pany rated them highly though. Grace then made a bitter PokeBlock, and Dexter gave her a five on it, saying that it was the best he had seen all day. With that, the round was over. Pany announced that Teams twenty one, thirteen, nineteen, twenty nine, and three were going home. Drew shot a glance at Peter's group. The judges decided that it was best to take a break. With this break, friends of other teams met up with others. Everyone was in friendly competition, except for Drew and Peter. Grace had forgotten all about Peter and walked away with May so that she could meet some of her friends on another team. Drew was left alone to watch their stuff. He knew quite well that competitors would take their chances in breaks like this and steal supplies from other groups. Most often, they wouldn't get caught.

"Well, well, well, I can't believe you're still in the competition," Peter started with Drew.

He had left his cheerleaders with his friends who were celebrating their victories and scores so far.

"Same here," Drew started off nice, trying to let Peter know he didn't care about his opinions.

"I saw you guys taking a lot of risks in the last round," Peter said, "Not very smart, but I didn't expect anymore from a team of coordinators. Most of the teams like yourselves have been cut from the race already."

"I know, lucky us," Drew answered, not looking at him.

"I didn't catch your name, what was it?" Peter asked.

Drew thought about it a while and answered,"Drew."

"Ah, I see," Peter said, his accent starting to aggrivate Drew, "I knew a bloak by that name once."

Drew smirked and looked at him, "What happened?"

"Well, he's been the only person to ever beat me in a comeptition like this," Peter said, anger inside him, "You know what that means?"

"No, what does it mean?" Drew humored him.

"It means besides that one flaw, I've never lost one of these," Peter told him, "And I'm not planning on loosing this one. It means you better get ready to lose!"

"Okay," Drew humored him again, looking away.

Peter gave him a look and then walked back to his Berry Blender. His intimidating hadn't worked. Grace and May came back just in time as the next round began. Red stepped up to the microphone. The room became silent as he spoke.

"Well, as you've all noticed, many of the competition has left already. They have left behind the best Blockers we have at this tournament, you have all fought hard to get past them and all of the rounds. This next round will test your creativeness and above all else, the uniqueness you can come up with in your PokeBlock making," Red said proudly, "You won't be given any berries
randomly from us, you will order your own from the numerous assistants walking around at any time you feel nesessary. Now, what's different about this round, the rest of the tournament I should say, is that you can't use the Berry Blenders except for the use of making your badder hard and square."

He paused as some laughed nervously at his small joke.

"An assistant will be watching that you all obey the rules. Any teams that do not follow the rules will be disqualified on the spot," he continued, "You will use, instead, your Pokemon's crushing techniques, whether it be attacks like Crunch, Psychic, or Crush Claw, you can't use the Berry Blender. This round will also be taking into account the way the PokeBlock looks as far as marketing purposes most of you are studying. Good luck!"

He finished the speech. Assistants came from the back room and separated themselves out to the Blocker's Berry Blenders. A young woman with long, dirty blonde hair came up to Grace, May, and Drew.

"Hello! I'm Stacy and I'll be your assistant for the rest of the competition!" she said bubbley, "I'm here to get you any berry you want and to make sure you no longer use the Berry Blender. I'm not allowed to give you advice, not that I could."

"Thanks," Grace said to her.

"Begin round eleven!" Red announced when everyone was in place.

"Guys? I'm going to go first, ok?" Grace told them.

May and Drew nodded with full trust in her. Grace went to Stacey and asked for three Pecha berries and a five Magost berries. Stacey obediently went in the back room to fetched the berries. When she returned, Grace thanked her and started her work.

"Come out, Medicham!" Grace said and let Medicham out.

"Medicham," it said in a calm voice.

"Medicham, use Psychic to break up these berries into tiny pieces!" Grace ordered.

Medicham raised its arms and soon the berries were lifted into the air. Medicham swirled them round and round, cutting them up as it went.

"Do you have a bowl in the back?" Grace asked Stacey.

Stacey nodded happily. She went to fetch it from the back. She came back and set the white bowl down. By then, Medicham was done and lay the badder into the bowl. Grace thanked her. Grace then opened up the Berry Blender and had the machine harden and square the badder. Five PokeBlocks popped out. Drew got an idea. He reached into the napsack he had set down on the floor at the beginning of the tournament and took out a stand and five small PokeBlock molds.

"Come out Flareitten," Drew said and the orange fire cat came out of the Pokeball.

Drew picked it up and set it down on the table.

"If you melt them down and add some more stuff, you can make the score higher," he said to Grace.

She nodded. She set the five PokeBlocks into the molds. Drew then told Fkareitten to light up its tail and set it into the stand. Flareitten did so. Grace then put the molds with the PokeBlocks in them onto the stand. They soon melted. Flareitten then shut off its tail on Drew's command. Grace added some sugar and peprika into the mix.

"Hey May," Grace called for May, "Can you let out your Icechik? I need it to freeze the PokeBlocks."

"Ok," May said and let out her blue penguin baby Pokemon.

She picked it up from the floor and set it on the Berry Blender as Flareitten jumped off to make room.

"Ok, Icechik, use Ice Beam, but not so hard," May tried to tell it.

Icechik understood and let out a small beam of light blue. The PokeBlock mix solidified and became cold. Icechik stopped, seeing it was done. Grace then pounded out the PokeBlocks. They were a swirl of pink and peach with little red dots mixed in randomly. Grace was happy with her making. She then raised a pink flag. Not only would Azurill like the sweet taste, but it would also like the frozen sensation.

"Time!" came Red's voice from the microphone.

The judges made their rounds as usual. Pany came over to them first. She had seen Grace working the hardest on the PokeBlock and Grace had never let her down, not that anyone ever did. Pany inspected the PokeBlock, seeing its colors and swirls and gave it an honest four, saying that it was appealing to the eye. Then she gave it to Azurill who gave her another four under her belt. That gave Grace a total of eight points for one PokeBlock.

"Oh, I meant to give this to you," Pany said, giving Grace a slip of paper, "It's one of my best recipes. I figured we swapped, no?"

"Yes, thanks so much," Grace thanked her.

"See you guys later," Pany said as she picked Azurill up and left to check more contestants.

...

When round twelve started, May told Grace and Drew that she wanted to try out a recipe she remembered seeing on a cooking channel once. She asked Stacey to bring three Enigma berries and four White Ginema berries, only found in Contesta. Stacey told her good choice and went to get them. She set them down on the Berry Blender and went back to the wall. May asked Grace to have Medicham use Psychic, but it couldn't. The berries were too hard. Drew told her the only way was to use an attack like Crush Claw, or Crunch.

"Hey, Drew, can't a Sawbura learn Crunch?" Grace asked.

"Yeah, but we don't have time like that. We only have thirty minutes," Drew told her.

He let Sawbura out anyway.

"C'mon, I'm sure we can think of something," Grace said.

As May and Drew payed attention to her, Sawbura looked around the room. It saw a Sharpedo far off using Cruch on a hard berry. Sawbura got excited and wanted to do it too, but it didn't know how. It watched the Sharpedo open its mouth and have two large jaws appear above its original jaws and slam down on the berries. Sawbura then turned back to the table. It knocked down one of the Enigmas. It turned back to see how the move was done, and then tried itself.

"Hey, Sawbura is doing something!" Grace said.

May and Drew turned to look. Sawbura opened its mouth and the two jaws appeared above and below its original jaws. Then, it had the jaws
slam down on the berry, cutting it in two.

"Alright, Sawbura, didn't know you had it in you!" Drew said happily.

Sawbura began chopping away at the berries, as Medicham grabbed the choppings and put them into the bowl. May mixed in sugar to the mix. She asked for another bowl, which Stacey graciously got for her. May then had a bowl of white mix and a bowl of black mix. May then poured the black mix into the molds a third of the way and had Icechik solidify it with Ice Beam. She did the same with the white mix and then the black mix again. When they were all done, May had PokeBlocks that looked like Oreo cookies. May asked for the blue and pink flags to be raised. When the round was all done with, Serenity and Pany came to the Berry Blender together. They both rated May a "5" on such a cool idea. Absol gave her a four for taste and of course Azurill gave her a five. Grace and May flipped out on such high scores afterward. Drew then said that he'd do the rest of them and try to get scores from Jack, Red, and Dexter.
Drew made a bitter PokeBlock next that had almost every shade of green in it with a black stripe through the middle. Dexter told him it was an "exotic look" and gave him a four. Porygon gave it a four as well. Drew then made a rainbow colored one that he gave to Jack and Red. They said they wondered how he did it, and he said all he did was use an extremely wide variety of berries. Stacey had to make two trips for that one, but she did it happily. They had each given him a four for it, and their Pokemon did the same, except for Machoke who gave him a three. The last one was one that looked like a grilled cheese sandwhich which he gave to Jack who gave him a five for it for effort. Houndoom gave it a four. When the round was over, the judges sent teams twenty three, twenty four, thirty, one, and twelve home. Then it was just teams twenty five(May, Drew, and Grace), twenty six(Peter), four, five, ten, forteen, twenty seven, eighteen, and twenty two left.

Dexter went up to the microphone and said, "Well, that's another round. We know you're all tired. But this round isn't about making PokeBlocks anymore. Now we will test your intellect on berries and PokeBlock making. Your assistants will give each team a buzzer. I will ask a question and if you, individually, know an answer, press the buzzer and give me your answer. Then, if you are right, your team gets a point. Get it wrong, however, you loose the chance to answer next turn. And let the quizzing begin!"

Stacey walked up to May, Drew, and Grace and handed them a red button that was hooked up to an outlet somewhere.

"Is everyone ready?" Dexter asked them holding cards in his hand, "Then let the quizzing comence!"

Everyone got ready for the first question. May stood uneasy. She knew practically nothing about berries or Pokeblock making, she just got lucky with those few PokeBlocks she did good on. Dexter started the with the first question.

...

So it went, every five questions, the team with the lowest score was booted out of comeptition. Slowly, team five left, team twenty two left, an so on until teams twenty five, twenty six and ten were left. With one more question hanging on Dexter's lips, Teams twenty five and ten were tied. This next question would send one home.

Dexter asked the final question, "Where is the only place in Hoenn you can find Bluk berries?"

Had not answered a question yet, May slammed on the buzzer. Drew's hand had found it to the buzzer, he too knowing the answer.

"Team twenty five?" Dexter asked, waiting for their response.

"Right outside Slateport City," May and Drew said, almost in unison.

How could they forget? It was their first battle against one another ever for the possession of a Bluk berry.

"And, team ten, will you please leave the auditorium?" Dexter told team ten to get out nicely.

They dropped their heads, but were brightened when the other four judges gave them their PokeBlocks.

"Now, teams twenty five and twenty six are our finalists!" Dexter announced, "There's just one thing to do now. You must put all of your skill into this one last task...make a PokeBlock. One that appeals to every taste...to every Pokemon's liking. You have thirty minutes. Start...now!"

Drew knew exactly what to do. He told Grace and May to let him handle this one and they trusted him as their best team mate. Drew ordered five Oran berries, one Magost, one Liechi, one Iapapa, two Lum, and two Chesto berries. Stacey came back with the asorted berries. Drew then had Sawbura use Crunch on the hard berries and Medicham use Psychic on the soft ones. He then mixed them all together in the bowl in front of him. Fifteen minutes left. He then brought out a milk carton from his napsack. He filled the molds with the milky looking substance. He had Icechik freeze it. Then, he knocked it out of the molds and sprinkled the pieces into the mix. He then filled the molds with the new badder and had Icechik freeze it again. Then, he set the molds onto the stand and had Flareitten heat them up a little. If his calculations were correct, the milky substance would melt before the actual PokeBlock would. Then he'd have PokeBlocks with creamy insides, and a taste meant for all PokeBlock eaters. The Pokeblock was a swirl of dark
colors. Some of it oozed out in a creamy, peach film.

"Time!" came Dexter's voice from the microphone.

The judges went to Peter's group first. They tried the PokeBlocks, tasted them, inspected their outter looks and asked of the recipe, which Peter gave to them graciously. They gave him a final score of 18/20, a very high score. They then made their way to Drew, Grace, and May. Drew was shaking a little. He wanted to beat Peter so badly, and now he was doubting himself. They set out the scoring blanket and began to inspect the PokeBlock. They all agreed it looked good to eat. Perfect score there. The hard part came when the Pokemon tried them out. Pany had Azurill tried first, who immediately gave them a perfect score for the PokeBlock. But this score wasn't given out for nothing, Azurill had to be taken away so that it didn't eat another. Houndoom tried it and gave a perfect score. Houndoom gave a face as if it were in heaven and it sat down, enjoying the great sensation the PokeBlock gave to it. Picky little Absol was next, who also gave the same reaction as Houndoom. Machoke was next, and went to take another when it
remembered to leave one for Porygon. Porygon tried it. It couldn't pretend or be serious for long as it searched for the next highest score after five on the scoring blanket, which wasn't existant. The judges were shocked.

"What what what?" Jack studdered.

"How could that be? A perfect score all around?" Red said in astonishment.

"None of us have ever gotten a score like that before," Serenity told them.

"This was the best PokeBlock I've ever seen! How did you do it? What's your secret?" Pany shouted in excitment.

"Yes, what is this gooey stuff our Pokemon are going crazy about?" Dexter asked, inspecting a spare PokeBlock they were studying.

"Eggnog," Drew said abrutly.

"Eggnog? This kid beat me with eggnog?" Peter yelled outraged.

"Yes, because everyone loves eggnog," Drew said with a wide smile.

"Wait a second it's you! You're the Drew kid that beat me last time!" Peter said still outraged, realizing the same reciope that had beaten so many years ago.

"Yes, that's the second time you've underestimated me and lost. How does that make you feel?" Drew asked, egging him on.

Peter just stomped on the floor and left with his team. Later, the judges handed May, Grace and Drew a ribbon for winning the tournament.

"This ribbon indicates that you won our PokeBlock contest. It'll be easier for you all to enter the Orchida Festival when you get there," Serenity told them.

May, Grace, and Drew thanked them and went to leave. The judges did as well, except for Jack. He stayed behind.

"Andrew," he called.

Drew turned around and Jack motioned for him to come. Drew walked over and stopped in front of him.

"You did a real good job out there," Jack commented, "I'm real proud of you."
"Um, thanks!" Drew said.
"You using that recipe brought back such fond memories of Anne," Jack told him.

"I know," Drew looked down.

"Well, then I guess I'll see you around," Jack said and turned to leave.

Drew turned around and said, "Yeah, see ya."

...

Later that night, May and Drew were getting ready for bed. Drew lay down in his bunk and May sat on the edge.

"You haven't always been a coordinator, have you?" May asked him.

"Yeah I was. Always been. What makes you say that?" Drew asked her.

His arms were folded behind his head on the pillow. His purple jacket hung from the hook it had been that morning. The room was only illuminated by the full moon outside.

"I don't know. You just seemed to swamp the competition. You really knew what you were doing," May said.

Drew thought about it and said, "My mom's side of the family were all Blockers. Whenever she brought me over to Uncle Jack's house, I used to watch him make PokeBlocks for hours. The two of them taught me everything about PokeBlock making," Drew told her.

"Jack? The judge Jack? He's your uncle?" May asked surprised.

"Yep, sure is," Drew said and turned over sleepily.

"Well, why didn't you say 'hi' to him during the tournament?" May asked, but her question couldn't be answered.

Drew was fast asleep from the long day at the tournament. May smiled and decided to go to her own bed and get some sleep. Tomorrow was also a big day, the Contest day. She looked out the window at the moon. It hung right in the window frame, like a painting of an unknown artist. May thought about Drew for the longest time. Who exactly is he?
